6PPC bbl length question #2

finally got a Krieger 14 twist .237 bore HV 29 1/4 inch blank headed to Memphis,,I can make weight at any length shorter than 28 inches,,

would you still finish it at the standard 21 +/- inches knowing you could make weight at 28,,does accuracy actually suffer from the longer bbl or are all the short bbl PPCs only that way to make 10.5 lbs??

The other issue is rifle balance.
How the heck can you make weight with a barrel that long? What scope, action, and stock are you using?

the rifle is an Terry Leonard stocked Farley action with a Leupold 35X Comp scope in Burris Sig Zee rings,,with a 28 inch 6BR bbl it weighs 13.5 lbs,,with 21 inch 6PPC bbl it weighs 10.5 lbs,,

it tracks well enough with the 6BR bbl to shoot less than 3/4 inch at 300 and 2 1/2 inch 5 shot groups at 600 yards,,

the UBR weight limit is 13.5 lbs

pic of rifle setup how it will be shot,,you think it will be easier to shoot with a shorter bbl with a little weight added to the rear??the stock is made to add weight in the stock.

the UBR limit is 13.5 and that is what it weighs as shown with 28 inch 6BR bbl,,how much weight would you move to the rear??

Usually making a 13.5lb gun from a 10.5lb i would add 1lb under the barrel channel, 1lb in the butt of the stock then make it weigh 13.25 with a hv taper barrel. Thatll make it track like a hv gun not a lv with a free swinging barrel. The length will be about the same as it is as a lv gun. Your br gunsmith does this all the time.

Good balance is important. I like to start with a 24" barrel so that it can be re-chambered when accuracy begins to nosedive. Then have the smith remove 11/2 or 2 inches, and yer good to go for another 1500.
