6mmBr Remington / 6mmBr Norma / 6mmBr

While looking for brass at Midway.com I found the following statement about Laupa brass.
Note: This brass is headstamped 6MM Norma BR to meet European CIP requirements but the case dimensions are IDENTICAL to the 6mm BR Remington. This may cause confusion as some people understand the cartridge cases are different in dimensions.
In fact it is the chamber dimensions, not the cartridge dimensions that changed. In 1995 Norma adopted the 6mm BR and submitted a new "chamber" specification for certification by the European CIP board. The chamber specification differs from the North American SAAMI specifications in the throat dimension. This change in the chamber throat dimension does not affect or change the cartridge case dimensions in any way.

Now my question: Are these three cartridges the same? Can the the loading data in my Sierra edition #5 loading manual be used for the 6mmBr Norma ? My loading book shows the 6mmBr Remington and not the other two. Maybe I sound confused, cause I am!
I'm thinking of having my Savage 112 re barreled by Sharp Shooter Supply, and they show barreling for the 6mmBr Norma. Help please.

I bought a 112 single shot that already had an SSS 6mmbr bbl on it. While waiting for it to arrive I ordered headspace gauges, Lapua brass, reloading stuff, etc. When the rifle arrived I checked the headspace and it was loose. I readjusted the headspace and then I tried to close the bolt on one of my new Lapua empty cases and the bolt wouldn't come anywhere near to closing. I then did some checking and the Clymer site had blueprints of the Rem and Norma reamers. The main thing is that the Norma chamber has the base to shoulder dimension .002" longer.

I then reset the headspace using one of the Lapua cases and put a couple of pieces of scotch tape on the base for the NO GO check. I have been meaning to call PTG to see what is up.

I did ask Forster and they say their dies are reamed to the Norma spec.

Some of the older Remington brass was shorter in the neck area, and I know for a fact that Pac-Nor has a short necked reamer and Lapua brass will hang up in that chamber.
If it is not trimmed it will crimp the neck really tight and pressure will skyrocket......

......... well i use the Redding Competition dies, Lapua 6mmBR Norma cases + 105gn scenar heads in my RPA,chambered for 6mmBR Norma) ..... no problems what so ever!!!

But Pac Nor also has a reamer made for the Lapua brass, no neck turn with the freebore for the 107. Mine shoots great. I am using the Redding FL "S" die and it works for me.

Hey Mike,

I am about to order a Pac Nor for 6mmbr and am having trouble specing the chamber. The Tech I'm discussing my needs with is suggesting a spec, reamer?) designed by Remington. This seems to big,I want to use Lapua Brass). They apparently have 4 reamers, each with a drawing or spec number. Do you know which reamer or chamber spec was used on your barrel. Thanks, Hank

No I don't. I asked for a no neck turn, Lapua brass chamber, throated for the 107 SMK and got exactly what I asked for.

Mike

Hank: I just got one from Pac Nor. I asked for a 6BR Lapua, no turn neck, throated to the dummy rounds I supplied. Got "exactily" what I wanted. Mine is "short throated" so I can shoot 60gr. Bergers. Got a Shilen on my other rifle to handle the heavier stuff.;)
