6mmBR Model 70

A while back there was a used Winchester model 70 in 223 wssm at the local gun store. I didn't buy it but this thought crossed my mined, could it be re-barreled to 6mm BR?

How hard (expensive) would it be to change the bolt face to the smaller round?

Just an idea, might make good use of the extra short action sense that new caliber has basically died. The next one I see might be worth buying.

I don't think the feed rails will work with a smaller diameter case( maybe a clip conversion) and a new bolt. Alot of work/money. I'd find a different action that fits your needs.

If it was for a .223WSSM, it will have a magnum bolt face. it will not work with the 6mmBR.

Getting a bolt for a Winchester can be a real PITA. I have a long action model 70 left hand that for reasons I won't go into now, I needed to buy a new bolt. You'd be better off buying a new action that suits your exact needs.

To answer you more succinctly, you certainly can have a 6mmbr chambered barrel spun on the action.

The problem as I see it lies in sourcing a new bolt. I looked high and low for a LH .473 bolt for a pre-64 classic action, to no avail. My only recourse was to buy a left handed 30/06, pull the bolt, and then send the 30/06 to Winchester to replace. No, I could not buy the bolt from Winchester...they would only replace exact i I sent the rifle in to them...not cost effective at all....
