For those out there following the new Savage LRPR in 6mm BR I figured I would post some target results with a few loads. The first is what happens when you fire the factory 90gr Lapua through the factory 1:12 twist barrel. Note: they no longer import the 77gr Lapua ammo as far as I have found so reloading is a must for this gun. Notice that some of the bullets went in sideways on the 100 yard target.
The second target shows a common 3 shot group using Lapua brass, fed. 205M primers, Berger 70gr FBHP Match bullets and 30.5gr of VARGET. V-N135 with the same seating, heavy jam) is just a bit larger in spread, I would say .3 -.75MOA is common. Now its just a matter of making my ammo more consistent. The best load so far seems to be Varget 30-31gr with 70 or 80gr Berger bullets. The last target i shot at 325 yards in 10mph wind with 80 gr Berger bullets and 30.5gr Varget. I was a bit unhappy with the results seing how the same load shoots .2-.5MOA at 100yds. I not sure if the FB bullets in this twist stay stable out past 200?? I know actual targets speak louder than words many times. Oh yea, the the last pic is of my gun,its also on a few other posts) it sports a 4.5-30X Bushnell 6500 on Buris Extreme Tactical rings and a Millet pic. base. The scope is water clear and i highly recommend it for the money. Last but not least its always fun out shooting guys with more expensive guns. Today I outshot my brother who was shooting a custom H-S precision 25WSSM varmit,$3000) gun with a $2600 Zeiss Victory 24x scope! Next i outshot his $5000 custom match AR shooting 69gr Black Hills ammo again with a 14x Zeiss. Last week it was a custom Rem 700 with all the goodies including a new trigger bolt guts, 32X Nightforce. I did it all with the $2000 gun in the photo. Being frugal never felt so good. However, in all fairness some weeks its the other way around. Got to have fun though when it happens.
