I realize the long time article here on the site says it may be best to just leave them alone but was wondering if anybody did in fact take the small burrs out of the flash holes and if so does it contribute to accuracy as some have stated in the past.

I hit mine with the Sinclair ppu tool. barely removes anything, basically just around the edges of the pocket. can't say it contributes to the accuracy but it DOES contribute to primer seating uniformity! and once again, we are just eliminating variables (if you are shooting br anyway:D) so that's one less variable to be concerned with:). I do a fair amount of prep work on my brass and can't say any of it matters on paper, but it does help me sleep at night. there is also NO WAY!! it hurts on paper:eek:

Thanks group therapy, but I believe u r referring to the actual primer pocket in your post above which is definitely all good. I was asking about removing the burrs in the flash hole inside of the case.

Unless flash hole was drilled, it was punched.
Probably a little bit of clean up needs to take place.
I debur all my new brass, some have more to touch up than others.

your right, sorry about that, my head has been unplugged today:rolleyes:. if I could see the burrs in the case, id remove them too

Photo_3.jpg This is what the last batch of Lapua 6br brass I bought looks like from the inside of the case. I thought the flash hole in these were drilled rather than punched, but these look punched to me.
I will feel better about these after they are cleaned up.

I believe at one time Lapua tried drilling the flash holes and the results dictated they go back to punching them.
A year or two ago, someone posted a link to Lapua’s webpage stating this, or something very similar (going off memory here). I looked for the link and didn’t see it.

I don't think any big producer of brass is still (if ever) drilling spit holes. Lapua's are punched. You can see that clearly if you use a 10X loupe.

Does it help to deburr? Can't hurt! Just don't confuse deburr with Chamfer as that would remove too much material in a critical location.
