6mmBR in T/C Encore?

Hey guys, I'm knew to this 6mmBR thing, I don't own one, but I'd like to get a custom barrel in 6mmBR for my T/C Encore. Is anyone out there using an Encore for this round? I'd like to have a rough idea of what to expect for accuracy out of the rig. I'm intrigued by the thought of having a 6mm round for varminting and using for deer hunting that doesn't have the powder appetite of the .243 Win., which I do have and love, but since my Encore is a switch barrel option, I'd like to have something a little different. I used to own an XP-100 in 7mmBR, it would shoot .3" groups at 100yds if I did my part, and that was with a 2x scope. Give me some of your experiences and recommendations, I'm looking at 55 gr or 70 gr. Blitzkings or Nosler BT's, and possibly 68 gr. Berger FB, my .243 loves all of these bullets. How much will dies run for this round, and what dies do you recommend. I'm not on an unlimited budget, so please make reasonable recommendations, and no, I won't be shooting competition, only against my father and myself, and show up my brother-in-law at the range. :)
Thanks for your help!

OTT On Target Technologies. they are on the web, Mike Sirois he specializes in encores. He just built a 6BR for my encore and it shoots great ....groups .200 with regularity w 75 gr V-maxs to boot. Great guy to work with. Shoots identical to my bench 6ppc. Any questions feel free to ask. Douglas air gauge 1-12 25"

Hi Selmer,

I'm also in the learning stage on this, but I happen to own an Encore with several barrels, one of which is a 6PPC.

Mine was made by Steve Stratton at Virgin Valley Guns which is no longer building barrels, but I have a few insights after going this route.

The Encore shoots well and the gun and barrels he made for me work well for varmint shooting which is my primary interest.

The biggest problem with the Encore setup in my mind is the base and scope is mounted directly to the barrel. You have a choice of a dedicated scope for each barrel, which can get very costly) or switch the optics each time which takes a lot of time to re verify the zero.

I finally decided to dedicate a scope to each barrel and it works ok, but in the long run it's probably not worth the time and trouble,or cost).

A few other issues come to mind... The trigger on the Encore even with a custom job doesn't even come close to what a great Jewell trigger will do and that makes a huge difference for me in how well I shoot. While the Encore is fun to shoot, looks great and has some nice flexibility, it just doesn't come close to having a nice custom gun done in 6MM BR or one of the variations by one of the great gunsmiths that sponsor this site.

A few caveats with regards to my opinions. I'm NOT a benchrest shooter but I shoot a LOT of prairie dogs at long ranges. During a typical three day hunt I'll shoot upwards of 1500 rounds at ranges out to about 500 yards. I'd like to tell you I seldom miss... but hey.... life is about learning and the guys here are great!

Seriouly though, I can shoot a one hole group all day with the 6mm BR that Richard Franklin built for me and even was so lucky as to shoot a few in the 1 1/2 to 2" range @ 600...

Bulberry does some nice work on the Encores. You might want to give them a buzz.

It's been a while since I posted here, but I thought an update would be in order regarding this TC piece.

This last hunting season, I managed to shoot a nice buck with my TC Encore @ 330 yards...,measured by laser and pacing).. I was using a barrel from Steve Stratton in 7mm-08.

While the area I was hunting in Minnesota was a slug zone, they do allow "pistols".... LOL! If they only knew!

Dave

PS.... One shot

I saw a post in the forums at benchrest central of a guy who can regularly shoot 6" groups at 1k with his encore, I don't know what round he was using but it lets you know the rig does have a little potential. He even said he has had a 5" group but he thinks he was lucky. I hope it motivates you, good luck!

Just a quick update to this post for those possibly interested in 6BR Encore pistols. . .I still have my T/C Custom Shop 6BR and it still shoots like a house on fire. . .to read more about my personal experience with the Encore pistol:
