6mmBR Chamber to Fireform from Factory Lapua Ammo

Flouncer

What the heck it works for me !!
Amateur checking in with the obvious. Almost too much info in these threads to assimilate. Regarding all the improved cartridges, is there one form of 6mmBR improved that can safely be made by firing Factory Lapua loaded ammo in an improved chamber ? My conceptual chamber is to be biased towards the 105/107 grain Long range bullets.

If no, then I will probably just start this adventure, I think, with the PTG 6mm BR LAPUA BLUE BOX .2704 NECK .093 FREEBORE.

After I shoot this enough to either get better, discouraged, or shoot the barrel out I can go from there.

The intended purpose is recreational type matches and F-Class open ranging from 300 to 1,000 yards at the Sacramento Valley Shooting center. Not competing seriously against the army of $3-4K guns off the bench. I have plenty of basic reloading experience, and am getting away from the blast and recoil and fouled barrel of my 6.5-06.

Thanks !!

Brx can be safely formed by firing. You can even use the fire forming loads effectively at the mid range matches. Pm me if you want any info. See you on the line!

Woog, can I shoot the Lapua factory ammo in either flavor to fireform?

I read and understood (sic ?) the threads about handloading brass long, and jamming the bullets to "headspace".

A Factory lapua, either the 90 or the 105 wouldn't touch the lands in a brx chamber, no ?? So, if not, then is it safe ? Why wouldn't you have a headspace problem with attendant danger of failure ?

If the factory ammo is not a great idea, I have no reservations about loading virgin brass and any of recommended powder/bullet combos and seating depth to fire form.

Hogg, thanks. I put in an order for .243 barrel at PacNor. I will most certainly talk to Pacific Tool and Gauge and my gunsmith before I purchase a reamer.

Thanks for the input.

You will need to jam hard for the fireforming, factory OAL may not afford that without pulling the bullets out a little. I would just use virgin brass myself. BTW Marc at Spartan Rifles has a reamer for brx if you decide to go that route.

I agree with you. Just load up from virgin brass. I'll have to get a reamer anyways, so I might as well go BRX. I see Spartan is almost local so thats a big plus. Thanks again.
