6mmBR .272 no turn

Hello All
First post, I think this site is great, lots of good information.
I have a krieger 1/8 twist barrel and when I talked to a gunsmith (recommended on this site) anyway I said I wanted a .272 no turn neck. I will be using Laupa brass.
He said that he has a .275 neck reamer.
I was kinda set on the .272 no turn.
Being new at this, does anyone have any advice on what I should do.

I've heard of some good shooting .274 no turns but, I would find someone else to chamber for the .272 no turn personally.

It's your money get what you want, because if you get the .275 and it doesn't shoot how you think it should, you'll be questioning yourself the whole time if the .272 would of made the difference.

.275 seems awful big for a 6br, it seems like it would be a lot sloppy for the available brass.. Do it in a .272 and sleep good at night......

Brodak: You said the key words, " I want a .272" neck". It's your money and you should be getting what you want, not what the 'smith happens to have available. I personnally spec out my own chambering reamer(s) for every new barrel, from Pacific, specifying neck dia., throat/freebore, and chamber over all length. I cannot see spending over $300 for a premium barrel blank, then have it chambered with whatever reamer is available. If interested in more details, ( I don't want to create another long, rambling posting) feel free to send a pm. Many of us are using our own reamers, so it would just be beating another dead horse.

OPPPs I fat fingered the key board---it was a .274 neck sorry.
But the advice is good, yes I want a .272 no turn

.272 neck will definately be the go. My BR has a .271 neck and I find that my pressures are running high with my new batch of brass as the neck thickness does not allow enough clearance. I'm having to slight neck turn as a result. The .272 neck will be a safe & accurate choice.

Have your gunsmith rent the reamer of your neck size. They are around $30 to rent. Several places. Or spend the $117 to buy one such as the one below, chamber your barrel, and then sell it on this forum for $80-100.

tim: I realize going the rental route is an alternative, but you still do not know the history of that reamer. It could have been subjected to "mishandeling" by a previous user. Also, unlike using your own reamer, if the chambering turns out to be a "good one", you will not have the choice of cutting a duplicate chamber with the same reamer, which also means the same brass you used in the "old" chambering may very well fit in the "new" chambering. I've cut 3, 223 chambers, 2 6BR chamberings, back-to-back with my own Pacific 223 & 6BR reamers, and the Lapua brass is interchangable between each. My gunsmith also prefers working with a "virgin" reamer, and comments that it makes his job easier. All my reamers are floating pilot (Pacific), and there are no reamer marks left in the throat. Every job has been first-class all the way, so, I personally prefer the second choice you listed. And you're right again: if you do not want the reamer after chambering, it can be sold for a good return on your investment. A barrel blank ($300+), plus the cost of fitting & chambering ($175+) is just too much of an investement (to me) to take a chance on an unknown reamer.

I for one, sure wouldn't rent a reamer from a rental place for the reasons mentioned plus a few... buy your own and you'll be lots happier in the long run.

Great feedback, Along with a PM from fdschuster, I have decided to buy a reamer from
PTG and be done with it. This way I will get exactlly what I want and no concerns on how
many chambers where cut with the reamer. I will either keep the reamer, for futher chambering or sell it.
