6mm X 30/30 imp

I'm putting together This 6mm X 30/30 Imp on a modern single shoot rifle with a 12 twist barrel 30" long. I have P.O. Ackley's data on it but, I would like some resent reports on loads and accuracy. Has anyone on this forum shot this cartridge?

No I dont know any more than PO ackleys imfo but it sounds like a nice little cartridge to play with in a single shot such as the ruger #1. I hope someone chimes in and gives you some advice. Ackleys book is solid load imfo, but start at the bottom and work up because when he wrote the book it was 1970 and lots of powder differ slightly in burn rate and primers are different then they were back then. Another place to check on this cartridge is Ken Waters pet load manual.I will look it up and let you know what his accuracy load is for this one. The powders so selected are N201,H335,BLC-2, and winchester 748. The 30 american case can be reformed for this cartridge with more case strength and the small rifle primer as an added bonus. You can drive 90 grainers in excess of 3100 fps. The next added bonus is the fine 68 grain match bullets in use today. Ken Waters suggests a single shot ruger#1 or #3 and the browning hi wall copy also. Ken has a high opinion of this cartridge and suggests an ackley improved version with the 40 degree shoulder for a little added punch. Good luck and keep sending imfo as you get into your project. One last note, dont ackley the cartridge if you use it in a repeater as it wont feed to good with the 40 degree shoulder. That is all I have at the moment. Hope it helps and makes a fine deer cartridge with 90 grains and up.

This great wildcat is so similar to the 6mm JDJ (or 6-225 Win Imp) that load data could probably be used along with starting loads for the 6mm International.

Forum member "Downtown" was asking about this cartridge about a year ago. You might PM him to see if he found or done anything further. I sent him a copy of a the Ken Waters article from Hamdloader magazine but I don't have it here or I would send it to you.

Mine will be a little different. The reamer is .406 dia. X 30 deg shoulder, Neck shoulder junction is 1.8 from base, with a .100 ball seat (free bore) and the std 1 1/2 deg lead.

I guess I'll use the Ackey 4895 data with with that powder RL 15 and Varget for 85/90 gr and for the lighter bullets, 2015 in place of the 3031 loads, as well as 3031. I think I'll be able to run a full case of H414 /2700 with 85/90 gr bullets but I'll just have to see. I'll try flat base 100's with that powder, too, to see if it will handle thoughs.

I've used 30 American in 32/40 and found that the only differance is about 20 fps slower but that was in low pressure loads. The 30 American had .05 cc more capacity so, that is maybe why. But, I will diffenity try them.

What issue the the Ken W article in?

Does anyone know the case volume of the 6BR and 6 int? I won't know mine until I fire form one.
