6mm Remington powder choice 87 VLD

Looking for best powder choices for a 6mm Remington with the Berger 87 VLD. H or IMR powders preferred. Looking for good velocity.

Thanks

R#19 with a cci 250
IMR 4831- Rem 9 1/2

If I could find any N160, I would be all over it!

Let your rifle tell you what is max load, Kiss the lands, find pressure, rock on!

'Play with primers and expect night and day differences!

95g Partitions are 5/8" at 200 yards with IMR 4831 and Rem 9 1/2's, decent jump.

You will see that the 6 Rem SMOKES the 243 winchester!!!

I have a Remington 788 in 6mm I use to shoot groundhog matches. I don't have the exact loads but I have found that Varget and IMR 4064 with either a 87gr Hornady Vmax or 85gr Sierra Varmiteer give the best accuracy, right around .5" to .750" at 100 yards.

There only about 2 grains more water capacity in the 6mm case how does it smoke the .243?…

I have had a flock of both the 243 Win, 6 Rem., 243 AI, and two 6 Rem AI.

6 Rem = the 243 AI in velocities, but the 6 Rem needs trimming from time to time, unlike the 243 AI.

I have reamers for all three of these cartridges.

Best to put the 6 Rem on a long action or have a Wyatt's mag box installed in a Rem 700 short action for the 6 Rem.

If a guy were building a custom, had brass and dies for the 6 Rem AI, that is a good way to go. 26" Shilen barrel, short freebore to zero freebore, 12Twist, 70g Noslers at 4050-4100(AA2700 & Win 760) is the accuracy node with the 80g Sierra Blitz BT at 3800 with R#29 in the 6 Rem AI. 10" Twist Douglas was 100 fps slower, diff in barrels and twists.

In the Std 6 Rem with 95 bullets, I shot IMR 4831 with a Rem 9 1/2 primer, 3150 was real world with 1/2"-5/8" groups at 200 yards. R#19 should be another excellent powder for the 87's with a cci 250 or Fed 218.

I've seen the 6mm stoked somewhat harder to 3250 with Berger 105's to shoot 1 1/4" groups at 500 and watched it take rabbits at 820 !
That thing offered some very impressive ballistics for a 6mm factory caliber with the magic 2000fps and 1000ftlbs way out at 750 yards.

R#26 really changes the equation on the 243 win, 6 Rem, and the AI versions of both with the100g- 105g VLD hunting.
