6MM REM. OR 6MM ACKLEY IMPROVED

I am going to build a new rifle for myself. I can't decide between the 6mm Rem or the 6mm Rem AI. Anyone worked with both and have an opinion? I will be shooting between 75 and 105gr bullets, hav'nt decided which twist yet. Thanks RJ

I use a 6AI for 1000 yard F Class and a 6mm Rem for everyday chucks and coyotes. The 6AI has limited barrel life so I save it for competition and use the 6mm Rem to nail critters.

6AI is a custom 30 inch 8 twist barrel on a trued 722 action; 6mm Rem is a 700 BDL. Enjoy using both.

If I was told I could only have one I would go with the 6mm Rem. Don`t have to fireform, longer barrel life, less muzzle blast, cheaper dies.

I have owned two .244 Remingtons and currently own two 6mm Remingtons. A third is in the works. The AI offers the advantages noted above. The standard, as noted. requires little work. I prefer the standard but it should be said that it is not known for long barrel life, either. It is just that the AI is shorter. A greatly under-appreciated cartridge in either form.

My favorite load drives a 58g V-Max at ~4050 from a 26" barrel. Lightning death on crows.

You can't go wrong with either one.The only down side for ackley is the barrel life. I have a 6mm and a 6mm ackley and a 243 ackley.the only reason i built a 243 ackley is because i can use lapua brass. They don't make lapua brass for the 244.I just built two 6br and a 6 dasher They sure are a lot of fun two shoot. you mite want to take a look at the 6br.

I like the 6mm AI simply because the cases don't stretch as bad...JMHO
I have a PTG custom reamer that requires most brass to be neck turned about .002 or so and I use a custom FL sizing die and custom Wilson type straight line micrometer seater. The combination works great!
