You can nearly always find Rem ammo in stores, and that's how I acquired all my original 6mm Rem cases, literally "reloading".

That 6mm Super LR looks like a nice cartridge. What is its defined raison d'être? Every new wildcat needs one.

When I originally decided on a build, it was going to be a 6mm of some form.
The SLR caught my attention with the 30° shoulder and long neck. Then, as I started doing more research, the 6mm ai was all I wanted and more, long neck capable of about 200fps+ over the SLR. The downside is fire forming, and the cost and scarcity of brass. I'm still not dead set on any chamber yet. I'm wanting it for a 1000 yard target/ p dog, coyote gun. I have dozens of rifles- all factory. This will be my first custom /wildcat. I want to run 80-107 gr bullet and push the 107s at least 3000fps. From my research, the SLR is pretty close to max(?), whereas the 6ai will do that with ease?

Questions:

Is it possible to reform 6.5 X 57 RWS cases to 6mm Remington and fire form to 6mm Remington AI?

From your experience, does 6mm Remington AI chamber easily when loaded from magazine?

A few years ago when 22-250 cases were hard to find, I bought all dies needed to re-form .243 Winchester cases to 22-250. Spent more time re-forming then shooting with less than total satisfactory results.

Personally I have shot 6mm Remington for years but with brass becoming scarce to obsolete I plan to keep it simple and re-chamber to a more available case, the .243 Winchester.

How about a 6mm x 284 ?
I compared Sierra's load data for 6mm Ackley Improved vs 6-284, both test barrels 26" and 1-8 twist. At a glance they are ballistic twins, but looking more closely and comparing powders common to both cartridges behind a particular bullet, it's plain the 6mm AI is more efficient, yielding more velocity from less powder. It's only Sierra's data, but there it is, and it surprised me, anyway.

I followed the same path before deciding on a 6 AI. No regrets from a performance standpoint, it is a hammer.

Sierra has the most data regarding the Ackley Cartridges. Other manufacturers always respond to my questions with "The 6 Ackley is not a SAAMI cartridge" and they won't offer any data. For Berger 115 VLD Hunting Bullets I started with 6 Rem Data and went up. Mine will take a 3.125" OAL with the 115s so any data they did provide would be relative.

When my bolt gets back from Gre-Tan (Getting a bushed firing pin.). I will start over with my load development and put up some Chrony data. The 6 Rem Avg Pressure for SAAMI is 65,000 while the 243 is only 52,000. 65,000 is even higher than the 6.5 Creed which is 62,000, I would imagine that the 6 Creed will be the same. The pressure limit alone helps the 6 Rem and 6 AI. I would like to be able to have real pressure data, just tough to do on a budget.

A 107 at 3000fps you could just run a dasher or 6xc.

The brass is not scarce. I started wanting a 6AI a year ago when I found dies somewhat cheap. I collected a 10" twist Douglas barrel and a 98 Mauser action. In the last year I have collected about 300 pcs of brass at a "normal" prices (not gouge 'em prices). Brass can be made from 257 7x57 even 270 (which I have about 500 pcs of and no rifle). I bought some 7x57 brass made from military 30-06 cases. I don't know if the necks were turned or not, but they are not thick.

I have an extra set of RCBS 244 Ack Imp dies. If you go that direction, $60 puts them on your door step.
