6mm Rem Ackley Improved Dies.

I just finished reading an article by Richard Franklin regarding use of the 6mm Remington Ackley Improved as a varminter. In the article he covers case forming by fire forming as well as using 7x57 Norma brass and running them through a 6mm Remington Ackley Improved die to form the brass.

I am not aware that any company makes 6mm Remington Ackley Improved dies. Does anyone know of a company that does? If so why fire form cases?

To make 6mm AI you simply shoot 6mm Remington through it, with the bullet jammed firmly in the lands.. Or Create a false shoulder first (best way in my opinion)
Just about any die company will make 6mm AI dies for you, it is a well know wildcat. The dies are not used to form the brass, they are used to push the shoulder back slightly and or neckthe case down a bit to hold the bullet..

I think Richard did that for the brass quality. I just fire-form Rem/Win cases while varminting/practicing, still very accurate. Then a Lee collet die for 6mm Rem will work fine until you need to full length re-size...lots of die companies make them.

No need to 'jam' the bullet if the chamber is head spaced correctly. AI head space is shorter than the head space of the parent case. In this manner (recommended by Ackley) the case is held firmly against the bolt face.
