6mm Powder for Light Bullets

I have used up the supply of Varget I had been using for light bullets in my 6mmBR,12 twist). Much is written here about the powders for heavy bullets, but what currently seems to be working good for 58 and 65 grain projectiles?

Check out our varmint load page. It covers bullets from 50-75 grains: http://www.6mmbr.citymaker.com/varmintloads.html

Popular powders incluce VV N135, Benchmark, H322, AA 2460.

I'm also working on a project where we're going to load 75-grain V-maxs on a Progressive press. It appears Ramshot TAC will give 100% load density with that bullet. As a ball powder, it should meter well.

Moderator- await in eager anticipation your write up on the progressive project.

I'm considering a Dillon 650 with case and projectile feeder for my varmint loads.

Any chance of a sneak preview????

THanks

Right now I'm trying to settle on a powder. May try 2520. I have some VV N135. It meters better than Varget but still not like a ball powder. It will be interesting to see if we can FL-size effectively on the machine, and hold the bump to .0015). If not I'll probably size and decap with my turret press.

I have an RCBS 2000 progressive and one neat feature is that the CCI primers come pre-loaded in plastic strips.

Test goal is to hold 1/2 MOA. I need to do some baseline work with the V-Maxs though. So far my rifle didn't like them but I haven't played with seating depth. We might try the Sierra Blitz-Kings instead. I think they seat a little easier.

Anybody tried Winchester 748? QuickLOAD suggests it may give the best velocity with 100% load density.

Actually, I already load my 6mmBR on a HOrnady Lock and Load AP press. I use a Redding body die to bump the shoulder about 0.0015 without any problem so far. Runout is 0.001 to 0.002 with some as high as 0.003 but only occassionally. I am able to hold 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards consistently. My best is some quarter inch groups at 100 yards. These are only 5 shot groups.

I use Varget through a Hornady Bench Rest powder measure. It will throw to +/- 0.2 grain at the extreme spread but ususally holds to within +/- 0.1 grain. Chronograph shows 60 fps extreme spread.

I have only started reloading my cases for the second time and so far so good.

Try Benchmark2, Hodgdon Benchmark) as it has much smaller granuals and works verry well with light bullets in the 6mm BR i have loaded over 300,000 rounds of rifle ammunition commercialy on dillon 650's and 1050's and if you convert the powder thrower to be spring returned instead of the new anti double charge system they will throw .2gr tolerence with AR2208,Varget) l
loads i have used with 55-58gr bullets in 6mmbr 22" 9.25 twist barrel

Case Lapua Primer Rem 7 1/2BR
32gr Benchmark2 ,Benchmark) 3400fps
33gr AR2206H,H4895) 3400fps
34gr AR2208,VArget) 3400fps
there was no diference in data between the 55gr BlitzKing and 58gr V Max bit the BlitzKing's seem to group slightly better and they realy explode when a critter is dispatched.

The rifle is a rem 700 VLS that i purchased new and had it rechambered to 6mmBR 271 nech and the barrel choped to 22" action trued and pillar bedded to the stock and trigger adjusted with a Kahles 8X56s fitted this is my Spotlighting rifle and i use it for game up to feral goats you should see what the 55gr BlitzKings does to them at 200 yards. I am going to try the 70gr BlitzKings aswell soon with the same powders.

My 6br is for crows and I've had excellent luck with the 55 noslers and 58 vmax hornadys.
My barrel is a pac-nor 12 twist 21.5 inches.
I shoot lapua brass and 34.0 to 34.2 of H335, velocity runs 3520-3540 with rem 7 1/2 srp's. I have a no. 5 contour barrel on a rem mdl 7 action in a real narrow forarm hunting stock, it does not track real well on bags, but I can almost count on .350ish 3 shot groups and .500ish 5 shot groups which is minute of crow for a pretty fur piece. I've never really tryed to see how much better the rifle is capable of. The vmax has probably been a little more accurate for me.
My longest varmint shot to date is with this little rifle, mr. crow at 428 yards. folks thats a far piece here in fl.
