6mm Dasher? Bat? twist? and general opinions

the BR will serve you well...what twist--Free bore-Neck Dia....??,,,those are the biggies...Roger
a 1-12 with .070 free bore .271 neck. Decided to back off the 1-8 twist with 100+ grain target bullet suggestions. It will be a prairie dog gun first and just poking holes in them with a heavy match bullet takes away some of the fun. The 1-12 is more optimal for the 60-90 grain varmint bullets. Most shots will be 600 yards and in. It's not permanent so with a couple years and a few thousand rounds of experience maybe I'll rebarrel to a 1-8 for a little more distance with the heavier bullets.

The first barrel on my BR rifle (600) was a 10 twist. It shot everything up through the Berger 90 grain. Later! Frank

Try the 87gr, Vmax with your rifle, some say it won`t stabilize them but it is worth the try.....

My Dasher 12 twist will........

Have three barrels for my Bat SV. 8(twist)-Dasher for 1K Matches , 8T-6BR varmint, etc, 14T -6BR Varmint for score Matches. You can change out a barrel in afew minutes, switch a scope. Just remember to put a lil dab thread goop on and have plastic thread protectors on extra barrels. Pete

That's a bit out of my comfort level but hopefully I can run into someone with a switch barrel setup and learn.

Brui,
Some things to consider: with the 8 twist barrel you can still shoot the lighter bullets 55g on up to 107's. for hunting purposes it will be just as accurate as a 12 twist and will spin the bullet faster for more bullet blow up on varmints. The no turn 6BR would be much simpler and would have a longer neck for different bullet lengths. Samuel Hall

Hi Sam...good advice ,,you have been there and "done that",,,most of these folks have never seen a 8 tiwst used with lil bullets....I think some smiths promote 10-12 twist to get rid of bbls that competitors dont want!!!....Hope you winter well ,,Merry Christmas....Roger
PS,,,im still tinkering with 6mm SAILOR...(6mm 250 AI variant)...

Ok back to an 8 twist. Now back to the free bore question. Will mostly use the mid weight varmint bullets so should I still have it set up for the 100+ bullets?

Brui,,,Listen to what Sam tells you ....he is one of the best shooters in the country(he actually competes!!!)....and has lots of experience with the BR and its wildcat cousins...Dasher etc...Roger
PS check out reply #12...and listen to Sam

One of my Dasher reamers is a .271"no turn neck with .055" freebore. This is perfect for all bullets up to the 95 grain Berger VLD, meaning the VLD's boatail/body juncture sits right above the neck/shoulder juncture. 105's will sit a bit lower, but still don't impede on the powder capacity. Your smith's reamer with .070" is just fine for the intended bullets.

I used to shoot 80 Fowlers and 88 Bergers out of my 1:8 30" Dasher without any problems accuracy wise. Don't know the fps I had with the 80s, but got 3300fps with the 88LDs.

Talked to Bat a couple of times. Getting a model M for the standard 6BR thanks for everyones help and advice.

Make sure that you tell them that it is for the 6mm br/dasher sized case. You will need a Sako type extractor and an angled ejection port on the Mod "M".

Been there , done that, and had to wait for another action to be built because it would not eject the cases.
