6mm Crusader

Those snipers are using the aics mags. I'm not into tactical . I'm thinking more of along the lines of hot rodding a factory 243 sporter into a crusader. I know the case is a fuzz shorter than A 6mm rem AI with a better shoulder angle. I can't seem to find a print of the case.

This is/was one of my favourites, possibly one of the most accurate calibers that I have used. I won my first ever GB F open League match using a 6mm Crusader all be it at short range (600yds) Be warned it is a barrel burner if you're using it for competition. My first barrel shot well to 800 rounds but carried onto 1000 rounds being reasonably competitive. The second barrel shot even better than the first but accuracy went at 600 rounds for no obvious reason. The barrel looked in good condition and was checked by several knowledgeable shooters who concured. I did load development all over again but I never got the accuracy back.
It was a great experience but I then decided a .284 might be a more suitable caliber for my needs.

Looks like a long action round to me. The 6SLR would better suite a short action. I got 2000rds out my SLR barrel shooting 105-108's at 3180fps comfortably. you can run them at 3250fps if you want to.

Mike,
What were you using for a load and how long of a barrel were you using??? Thanks!!

30". H4350 and VV160 were the powders I settled on. Winchester 243 brass. the charges aren't handy, 42-43gr if memory serves.

I ran one on a Surgeon 591 Action and Badger Bottom metal with Accurate Mags (no binder plate). Notched the feed ramp as I needed to for the OAL.

Pulled this from my rough notes:

115gr DTAC BN COATED:

USE NAKED Bullets for Break in.

-48gr RL 25 for Break in.

-RL17 47 to 49 is where it’s at for velocity.

-RL17 49gr will get 3300fps (low brass life 4 to 5 loadings)

-RL17 47gr is about 3200fps (This is about ideal)

Fitting a Crusader into a standard SA700 magazine is highly unlikely. I had to remove metal from the feeding ramp on my 581 to get it to clear from an AI mag. It is a great hunting, long range slow fire round. I used H1000.

Standard no, Atlas yes. 581? Most need feed lip mod and polish. Can be made to fast fire if you do your homework. H1000 didn't work for me at all. Could have been my barrel.

Been shooting the 6mm Crusader since it was first released. On my 7th barrel. It's a great caliber if you're shooting paper. You have to download it to not exceed the velocity limits in most tactical matches though. Was out load testing mine this morning. Got naked 115 DTACs up to 3295 fps. with 52.4 gr. of Retumbo (measured with a LabRadar). Accuracy node was around 3250 fps.

I've switched to 6x47L since I mostly shooting steel these days, so I'm probably going to sell my reamer, dies and whatever I have left of brass soon.
