Ok, I am sure you are wondering WTF I am talking about. Its a 6mm GT case run into a 6mm BR size die to set the shoulder back so the start of the shoulder forward, matches a 6mm Br case. We have varmint silhouette shoots and our farther target is a chicken @500yds and was thinking about a little more horsepower than the 6mm br. Lo and behold was going thru my reamers and found a 6m Br Remington reamer with a Norma length neck. Ran it into a 243 barrel with back half of chamber cut off, to make a brx, but didn't like the short neck when using 6mm br brass. My bullets were barely in the neck if I seated them anywhere close to touching lands. Looked at 6mm gt specs, soooo, ran my 6mm br reamer deeper in the 6brx chamber to make a BRZ. 85gr Sierra BTHP are about the heaviest I plan on using, so wanted a bit more neck than the BRX.
I ordered some 6mm GT brass. Brass came in Saturday, so formed about 30 pieces of brass and loaded with increasing charges of Varget and 80/85gr bullets. Tried to go to the range yesterday. It was about 46 degrees there, but the wind was about 30 mph @3:30, so headed back home instead of wasting bullets.
Ended up with a bit more capacity than the BRX, but with the long neck of the Norma 6mm Br.
Why did I do it? Lets say I am "Thrifty", but my wife calls it "cheap" at certain things. I had the reamer already and an extra 6mm br size die, so why not. Saves buying a 6mm gt reamer and new dies and should be enough for our varmint silhouette shoots. Will see how it performs when weather changes a bit
Here is a pic. 6mm GT, BRZ w/80gr Nos.BT, fired BRZ, BR, BRX.
