If that BRA brass has been fired more than twice I would strongly suggest against it.Can Lapua 6BRA cases be fire formed into 6BRX? I have a bunch of BRA brass but recently pcked up a 6BRX barreled action.
Thanks
Eric
I've seen and heard of brass being fire formed, say from 6BR to 6Dasher, after a few firings, I agree that it isn't the best option. I still think the one aspect that will keep the OP from going 6BRA to 6BRX is the BRA's altered case body taper. If that BRA brass has been fired more than twice I would strongly suggest against it.
I decided to go cheap a couple years back an do basically what the op is wanting to achieve wish I still had the pictures of my face after I got a face full of gas an brass fragments I fireform ok. But after 2nd fireing had case seperation .I've seen and heard of brass being fire formed, say from 6BR to 6Dasher, after a few firings, I agree that it isn't the best option. Right or wrong?
I have both a 6BRX Crones version and a 6BRA. I just tried chambering a 6BRA in the 6BRX Crones rifle. It chambered with no resistance and the bolt fell closed. The 6BRA would need a false shoulder to hold the case head against the bolt face for fire forming to BRX. Would I try it? Absolutely not, I would use new 6BR brass and fire form using the false shoulder method, better yet have DJ's Brass hydro form the brass. There are two versions of the 6BRX, Crone and Whitley. They are different enough that you will need to know which chamber you have.
I am not 100% knowledgable on the 6BRX but I do own barrels with two different versions of 6BRA. The "A" is for Ackley and all the Ackley Improved cartridges I know of gain performance by taking the taper out of the case body. I would think it highly unlikely that a 6BRA case would chamber in your 6BRX barrel.
