6MM BR Load Testing 105 gr Berger 300 yds

That's really not a seating depth trst. with the hybrids you shed try from .010 in to .090 off in .010 increments to find a sweet spot.

Regnar,

Guess I will have to expand my seating test. I had originally started .020 off the lands, then tried .010 off.
Shooting to see how they grouped @ 200. I had found that in my rifle that the +.005 in was a Jam and then decided to Test loads for Pressure shooting @ 300 yds, I found that the 29.9 and 30.0 grs shot pretty well and ran with that. Then thought I should probably see what the .005 off could do. That's how I got to where I am now.

Thanks

Seeing I'm zero'ed for 300 yards I would be about 4.5 inches high according to the JBM ballistic calculator at 200 yds. I dialed down 1.5 MOA which should be 3" @ 200 yds, leaving me about 1.5 " above Point of Aim.

Oh, I am shooting the Berger 105 gr Hybrid Target bullet. I understand it's a pretty good bullet for shooting out to 600 yards. The 105 VLD I understand is a better choice for out to 1000 yds.

Foxguy,
The 6mm 105 hybrid AND the 6mm 105 VLD Target bullets work very well at 1000 yards. With the Hybrid Target bullets I suggest that you start any bullet seating depth testing at .015 OFF THE LANDS. Then WORK BACK INTO THE CARTRIDGE CASE IN .005 INCREMENTS. Berger VLD bullet ( Target and Hunting) seating depth testing information can be found here: http://www.bergerbullets.com/vld-making-shoot/ (please change all references to COAL to CBTO= Cartridge Base To Ogive). Information on the effects of bullet seating depth can be found here: http://www.bergerbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/COAL.pdf . Any bullet seating depth testing should be done at the lowest powder charge listed for the bullet/powder/cartridge combination you are testing. Once the bullet seating depth accuracy node is found. Work the powder charge back up slowly checking for pressure signs and accuracy until your highest velocity accuracy node is found. I f you have any questions please let us know. Thanks for using our bullets !

Number one, 29.9 and 30.0 are statistically the same. The SD of a weighed load will give instances of one when weighed for the other, so this sort of nit picking is not productive. If the node is that narrow anyways, then good luck.

Similarly, nit picking on seating depth is similar. go 20 off and maybe try 40 off. If neither of those work, don't waste much time pushing a system that functions poorly. A good enough load with practice will beat a perfect load that took months to develop.

Rimfiremac,

Question, as I trying to develop a Load for 600 yards, (Which I have never shot before) so your saying it wont make any difference in my group on the target @ 600 yards if I'm loading @ 29.9 or 30.0 gr load with a + or - .1 tenth error?

TIA
