6mm BR in a specialty pistol,15' tube)

Hello,

Recent conversations w/ a co-worker about Contenders and Encores has me pining for a hand cannon again ;) I have a T/C Encore action that has been sitting un-loved on a shelf for years since I sold all my stocks, barrels, etc. It needs some work, probably a trip back to the factory), but otherwise it's the prime candidate here.

I'm on my second 6mm BR *rifle*. First was a Savage w/ a 27", 8 twist Douglas barrel, the second is a custom 40X w/ a 29.5" 8 twist Lilja barrel. Almost all my shooting up to this point has been w/ powders like Varget & RE-15, and the 107gr SMK.

Still not entirely sure what I *want* this pistol for... whether it'd be primarily fur or paper. If just fur I'm thinking 75-90gr bullets, which out of a rifle would be about a 1-10" twist if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure a 105-107gr bullet would be moving fast enough from such a short barrel to be worthwhile.

What kind of real-world velocities are people seeing from various bullets,in the 6mm BR) out of specialty pistols like the Encore and XP-100s?

TIA,

Monte

Hi
I have a H&S precion pistol in 6Br.It has a 18" barrel and shoots the 65 vmax @ 3192 fps.The load is 32 grains of vit N135,lapua brass and CCI match primers. It is a good accurate load.

Yep, I'd seen that thread when I'd searched initially. Thanks, though!

So... I've got a couple accounts of using light-weight pills,65gr V-Max) @ around 3200fps from a 6mm BR in a 15" tube...

Anybody using heavier bullets? 75gr V-Max? 87gr V-Max? 95gr VLD? 105gr A-Max?

It has been so long since I've been here I forgot that I had user name for the board.

Anyway: 6BR fast twist I think it has a 16 inch tube.

107 Sierra's 2550 to 2700 with n135

95 bergers maybe 50 faster

I haven't shot this gun since 1999. man tine flies when you have to work.

Monte,

I shoot an XP-100 switch barrel in both 308 Win and 6BR, both 16" barrels.

The 6BR is a 14twist and loves the 75 grain VMax's, here is a P Dog I shot in Wyoming at 346 yards, amazingly accurate rig.

It has been a long time since I ran it thru a chrono, but as I remember, it was around 3050.

I have also used it on Deer in Montana with the 308 barrel.

It is fun to take a rig like these to the local range and watch guys with varmint rigs tuck their tail between their legs and go home. Done that more than once, lol
