6mm AI questions

Hello Gentlemen,
I would like to rechamber a Rem. 700 SPS into 6mm AI. I don't want to use a long action. I see on the "guns of the week" page that Richard Franklin has to pull the bolt from his gun to extract a loaded round due to the OAL of the 6mm AI. But, he uses a custom BAT Machines SV action. I plan to shoot 75gr noslers at coyotes fast and furious in front of hounds. Does anyone know if i'll have problems. Thanks ahead of time.

Much respect,

Lonnie

I have a 6mm ai built on a Remington S/A and have not had any problems. I do load them one at a time. I have a follower epoxied in the receiver. I don,t know if you can use a s/a and load them in the magazine. I would think you would to have a long action to do this. Hope this helps. John

You will have problems shooting fast and furious with a SA receiver unless you use a really light bullet that will work through the magazine.
The SV is shorter than the SA remington too..........

The OAL of a 6AI is no different than a standard 6mm Remington. If you seat the bullet to fit the magazine, about 2.8" OAL max) an unfired round will easily eject from a R700 SA. You can load a bit longer, single load and still eject an unfired round. I also have another 6AI switch barrel gun on a Wichita action which will not eject an unfired round without removing the bolt. However, you have to appreciate that the Wichita action like many custom actions was designed to handle PPC or BR length cartridges. Hope this helps. Vic
