6mm-6.8

Has anyone messed around with necking down a 6.8 SPC to 6mm for running in an AR-15? I am toying with the idea of building one but not too sure how it would work yet.

Another good cartridge is the 6pdk, I shoot the 22 pdk in an AR15 and it shoots great. Do a search for 6pdk and you will find Roy Winnets home page, I think White Oak chamber these in AR's.
Jerry.

There is currently a set of 6mm WOA dies for sale on this board:

Please buy them before I do and build an upper around them ;D

It works fine... there are a few variants on that particular hybrid.

The downright best is arguably the 6HAGAR but that requires .30 REM brass & a lot of work compared to the others; 6.8SPC brass is about .1" too short to work as 6HAGAR.

There are several 6mm's based on the 6.5 Grendel case, itself based on the 7.62x39/220 Russian/22PPC parent brass.

RW doesn't like to give out any info does he?
We run a shortened 6.8 case necked to 6mm(6x41) with a 30 degree shoulder so we can shoot 95SMKs from the mag.
A 95 will hit 2800 from a 20" barrel.

I've got a WOA match upper in 6PDK and am quite happy with it. Need to do more load development.

Constructor,
Curious why you would build a cartridge 1.5mm shorter around mag length 95MK's? Are they that much better? That's really going to limit the heavies isn't it, or is the application specific for the 95's? I don't know how fast I can run them yet because of limited range time, but the Hornady 87BTHP pound tacks with 28gr of Varget in my 6PDK and there is some room left in the boiler.

I'll tell you one thing, I barely got off the phone with Roy with my ear intact. Doesn't do so good with email though.

I run a 6WOA, 30 degree shoulder, shoulder moved slightly forward from the 6.8, shoots great perfect xcourse gun in my opinion for me, I have not been totally pleased with the brass though, but I have settled on the R-P now and it seems to hold up the best, but part of that was my gun just couldn't shoot the charges others were shooting. I have a 107SMK going 2700-2725 fps. Some others are getting 2750 with moly. I'm happy where I'm at and depending on what velocities you get and what bullet you shoot at 600 yds. you are getting about 15%-20% better drift than a 223 80 gr. The rifle displays steller accuracy also, 87 Hornady BTHP shoot a .25" group. 107SMKs or 108 Bergers shoot 1/2" all the time, sometimes better. Works for me and after all my problems i had with my T2K a nice switch not having to work the bolt! Dave
