6mm 284

I'm looking to re barrel one of my rifles into a 6 mm 284. A number of years ago I had one and still have all the dies (forming, full, neck and seater). I don't remember what the twist rate on the barrel was but it was about 26-28" long and heavy and a DAMN GOOD shooter. Dose anyone out there know what a good twist rate for a heavy varmint type barrel should be? By the looks of things I have a boatload of 85 to 100 grain bullets still in the cabnet.

I have a 6-284 on a Rem 700 action. Can't remember the make of the barrel. I think it is 26", medium heavy with a 1/8 twist. 57 gr of Retumbo pushes moly coated Berger 115's over 3100 fps. It is very accurate.

Note: this load works in my rifle, may not be safe in yours. Please start low and work up.

With the bullets you already have 85-100 gr. a 10 twist will be just fine, If you want to shoot heavier 108-115 gr. get a 7.5 twist.

If you are going to shoot bullets under 100 grains a 10 twist should work. You have to watch at the velocities you are shooting that you don't turn them to hard. They will come apart. Matt
