6mm-250 pet loads

First off, hopefully I posted this in the right section. I have a 6mm-250 with a 26" 1/8 twist Douglas barrel built on a Savage action that I bought about a year ago and am finally getting ready to start loading for it. I have mostly IMR powders at the moment, and a broad range of 6mm projectiles. Is anyone shooting this caliber, and do you have any loads you recommend? Mostly punching paper at the moment but may take it coyote hunting.

First, is this a 6XC (6mm formed from 22-250 brass)? If so, lots of good info in a post in this section.

31.8-32.0 Varget w/107s, W-W 22-250 brass, 210Ms, 1x8. If you encounter pressure issues with this load (which is not close to a maximum load) check the diameter of the chamber neck, suggest 3 thousands.
Accurate to 600yds in 2 different barrels.

look at older Sierra Reloading binder under 6mm International. 25 or 30 years ago the 6/250 was the cat's meow. Then came ppc and the end of interest. I'm shooting one now, Krieger 7.5 twist barrel on a savage single shot built by Larry Racine. They'll shoot. Get a chamber cast so you know what bullets it was throated for. That and your twist will be the limiting factor in what bullet(s) it will shoot well.

I'm working on getting the build sheet for the rifle from the seller. He was supposed to send it to me and I never received it.

Greetings,
I ran a 2 barrels worth of 6mm/22-250 in an XC rifle. 31-32 gr Varget with 107 SMK's at mag length (short action M-70). Great cartridge, clearly part of the 6XC lineage.
Good luck
John

I have a 6mm-250 and found good results with RL15, Varget, and 4350. Bullets were all heavies from 90 to 105-107 grains. Berger’s were the most accurate but were jump sensitive. Good overal results can be had with the 105 LTB or Hybrids from Berger or the 107 Sierra. Start at 31 of Varget and work up. I had some good results with N140 and N150 but not better enough to justify the expense.

Note that there are two versions, the 6-250 with the “Savage” shoulder angle of 26.5 degrees and the 22-250 28 degrees. Load data is interchangeable. But the ammo is not.

From 1978 Sierra reloading manual if this helps any

Should have marked that barrel 6/22-250 or something. Thats the way most gunsmiths would mark a 6mm-250savage. A 22-250 is not a 250 but i hear it all the time- shot him with my ole 250- didnt know you had a 250sav man? Like my other pet peeve the 6cm. Thats a comp match to most that were around 10yrs ago. Stakes are too high to be ambiguous in this game.

Hodgdon has 6mm-250 data on their reloading site.

Comparing Hodgdon's 6mm-250 data to say a 243win, looks to me their 6mm-250 data is a little HOT with the heavy bullets ???? anyway, this is why we start low and work up accordingly.

107 smk with H-4831sc or or H-4350 or IMR-4350 would be my first choice.

I shot the barrels out of two 12 twists, using H335 and 70g Nosler BT, TNT, and 69g Bergers, very accurate and fast.

I also shot xyz g of h335 with a 60g sierra hp.

The 6mm-250 is the same as 6mm Remington International (Mike Walker's version - not Donaldson's.) It retains the original 250 Savage case length, but the 26.5-degree shoulder is pushed back a considerable distance (about 0.1") reducing case capacity and leaving a rather long neck.

NO! The 6mm-250 is just the 250 Savage necked down. The 6mm/22-250 is the 22-250 necked up. These are standard body length and base cartridge taper.

The 6mm International either Walker or Donaldson versions are different cartridges.

I think you're probably correct. I relied on Frank C. Barnes' entry in Cartridges Of The World, wherein he lumps 6mm-250 and 6mm International (both main versions) together. He leaves enough room to infer the two names can refer interchangeably to any of the three wildcats.

Having conceded to your interpretation, I feel there exists enough ambiguity to warrant examining the die, and the sized case, to determine 100% the actual dimensions. (The OP probably ordered the dies himself, and already knows what he has.)

I bought the rifle from the original owner, and the dies came with it. Since he was fireforming loads I can only assume that the dies are correct. I have yet to load anything for it.
