I just received this 6mm-22250 in trade from a reloading buddy. all he shot in it was 55 grain b-tips (if i recall correctly). i already have a .223 & .308 bolt gun and wanted to change thing's up. i've been reloading a long time, and was ready to get my feet wet in wildcats.
It appears to be a 1:14 twist w/ 24" barrel, on a mauser action. I've already got the trigger just right, about 2#.
I have everything from 62 grain Varmint grenades to 100 grain Power-lokt, and partitions. I have alot of 70&75 Btip's. Powders, i have lots of 4895 and Benchmark. I see loads on hodgdon's website using those with low pressures & good velocities.
I also got a set of die's in the trade, and have about 500 rounds of once-fired 22250 brass, and 100 rounds of once fired 6250.
My question is, what bullet weights can i stabilize and shoot reliably with this caliber?
If i shoot 62 grain for varminting, can i shoot 70 grain btip's fine? what kind of distance can i get accuracy with this caliber? or should i strip the barrel off, and get another?
My only concern is the slow twist.. I probably will not shoot past 300 yards with this gun. It's going to be my new varminter.. if it will shoot heavier bullets to 200 yards it may be my deer gun next season.
Thanks everyone,
Tommy
