6mm-'06AI??

im looking to build a long range 6mm rifle to handle 110-120gr bullets. I'm just trying to see if anyone has experience with the 6mm-06AI. this will be a heavy 30" fast twist barrelled rifle to shoot matches out to 1000, and hopefully take deer at similar distances.

Hi your 6.5-06AI should work well it is a bit over bore i personaly would look at the 6mm284 as it has all the powder capacity you need and cases are easaly formed by just full length sizing lapua cases then neck turning if you like. It is a lot easier than making 6mm06AI cases as there are multiple steps in necking down the case with anneling required and you MUST Neck turn as the necks will be much to thick then you will have to fire form the cases another step i would bet you will not have much of an advantage over the 284 case. with the 6mm_284 you can use 6.5-284 neck dies and just use a smaler budhing and the body die will work aswell then jut get a 6mm-284 seater and you are ready to go.

hope this helps sorry if it is not what you are after i just think you will be better off also you will get away with a shorter action if desired.

Hi look at the 6mm-284 as you will have just as good ballistics with easier cases to form by just necking down Lapua cases and turning if required. With the 06 case you will have multiple sizing operations with annealing and neck turning required. you will also be able to use a short action if you liked. Either way you would have a nice rifle the 6mm284 would have better barrel life and in my opinion a better option as dies are available and cheeper for it aswell.

Hmm.. ok. The 6.5x284 has a barrel life of 1500-2000 rounds. What will the 6x284 have?

It would push the 100-115 grain bullets wicked fast though..


Just wondering, will both of them fit in a Short AI magasin?
