6GT / 95 VLD-H

6GT with a standard .118 fb.

95 has pretty short bearing surface. Anyone tried them in that configuration? Trying to decide if I want to buy them or not. I know an .080 fb would be best for optimal results, just curious if anyone has ran them in the .118 / .120 thanks!

Wished I could remember, I had a 6 Dasher reamer that I ran that bullet in for coyotes with great success, but don't recall the freebore.

I dug around & found my prints.

1st reamer was in 2005 with a no turn .055" freebore, I'm pretty sure that's the one I used w/ the 95's.

Sold that & got #2 in 2008 in a no turn .104".

#3 is my .269" neck, .104" freebore.

Afraid .118 will have you jumping.

I've been shooting, the 95 Gr. Berger Classic Hunters w/ IMR 4350 at, just under 3,200 fps in my 6XC and getting Group's, in the 2's and 3's ,.. a very SWEET Load !
Med Hvy, 24" bbl, ( .707 Muzzle Dia ) .104 Free Bore w/ about, .050 -.055,.. "Jump" for the Classic Hunt..
I Use it on, Sage Rats and Yotes ( Cuts Sage Rats, in Half so Nothing, Exciting ! )
Got Full Penetration, on Yotes as I believe it was Designed for Use, on Deer sized Game, by Berger.
Berger Classic's and Hybrids, "Jump",.. WELL ( H-VLD's "Can be" a PAIN to, get to, Shoot ! )
Read the Bergers "Jump" / Jam, Data Paper, on How to get them to,.. "Shoot" !
We got, the 87 gr H-VLD's to shoot, Extremely Well, in a 10 Twist .243 Win at, 3,187 fps with, .070 Jump, using N-160. My Son put 5 shots, into a .277 dia. Ctr to Ctr group ( They CAN,.. "Shoot" ).

Played around with B 95 VLD target yesterday in my plain Jane 6 br with 104 FB using berger’s suggested routine. 50 thou off the lands was the best, first four shots thru the same hole, but 90 thou off wasn’t to far behind. 10 thou off the lands was barely in the case mouth, 130 thou off opened way up

There’s ALWAYS a deep node. May not be exactly what you want, but if it’s shoots you’ll want it!

Messed around with (50) of the 95gr Nosler Ballistic Tips in my GT. Ended up favoring 34.2gr N150 the most (33.2 - 33.5gr N150 bugholes with the 105 Hybrid in this barrel). However, final accuracy was meh at 2/3 MOA for five shots. Velocity was 3,040. Barrel is 27". Never tested it past that.

Edited to add. Standard freebore, and I was .050 off.

I have two rifles set up for the 95 GR VLD. One shoots one ragged hole .035 off the lands and the other one shoots .050 off the lands. This was after a systematic OCW and then a seating depth test.

We’ll see what @Clancy wants to do!! Haha. We’re splitting the reamer. If we go .118 I’ll probably do some 87’s. I love that bullet anyhow.

What fb was the reamer?

I can't give you a number because we have our reamers cut with zero free bore and then we use a throater reamer to get the throat we think we need. So, the bullet is then seat to touch the lands with the base a comfortable distance above the donut... We work from there...
