? 6Dasher using Alpha brass?

Any 6Dasher shooters using Alpha brass that can share experience and loading data? Me and a lot of others would be interested.

The new barrel I’m shooting the alpha brass in runs 40-50 fps faster than Lapua with same load of H4895 and 105 gr bullet, br4. I dropped 4/10 gr powder from Lapua Brass load with alpha for desired speed of 2990 fps with 105 vld. Had to drop a full grain of old Varget load to get down to 3000 fps. I think the slower powders like 4350 or RL16 might work better in the Alpha case than lapua ?? Haven’t had a chance to try them yet! You definitely want to reduce your load to start out with!!

I tested RL 16, the powder charge was slightly lower. Was it the brass or lot of powder, I do not know.
RL15 had a bit more accuracy and consistency, so that is what I am running.
I have never had much luck with 4350 in my dashers, seating depth has always been an issue. Seating long and soft seating with the closing of the bolt was the only way I could get it to shoot....... fliers got me every time.

I have not shot LR center fire in 30 yrs but got the bug and build a 6 Dasher to shoot this year. I shoot sling and I am not sure what to expect for accuracy at 600 and 1000yds with sling. The guns/ammo & bullets are so much better now than when I was shooting the big heavy 30cal bullets 30-40 yrs ago. So I have a lot of reloading lessons to learn/relearn so load development is slow. Just solved a problem that turned out to be Hbn coated bullets that had to thick a coating and caused velocity ES problems. I am getting close I think to getting a good load at around 2980fps with H4350 around 34.8g-35.1g using Berger 105 Hybrids. When I have the velocity nailed down I will develop a load with Varget. Starting to get loads that hold 4" or less vertical @ 600 and not sure if I should expect more shooting sling. I am 76 yrs old and have been shooting SB prone a lot the last 6-7 years and still hold fairly will but still not sure what to expect with the Dasher. Any sling shooters out there i would like for feed back.

What is the difference between RL15 and Varget?

RL-15 is only slightly faster than VarGet. It really does depend on which lots of each you are dealing with. One of my Dashers likes 33.4 VarGet to get to the 3000FPS node and another wants/needs 32.1 RL-15 to get to the same node. Several variables at play there.
I think RL-15 is giving me a slight accuracy edge over VarGet, RL-16, and H4895 in this barrel. Wether it is true or not I cannot say. I listen to the targets most of the time and usually regret it when I do not.
RL15 takes a little more time to clean the barrel, well worth the effort in this barrel. I shot my personal best small group agg (1.88”) with this rifle/powder at the 600 yard IBS match last month.
Test them all

Was that in an Alpha case?

Lonnie,
Are you competing with this Alpha Brass?

CW,
What length are you trimming your brass to?

Ed
I am not picky on case length. If they are within a couple thou.... good enough for me. Cut them all to the shortest and recheck every 4 or 5 firings. Dasher brass does not grow much.

Long time no see Wayne !! Haven’t yet. Didn’t have any last season, but will try it this year. You should come shoot !!

I’ll be there some anyway buddy but I’m gonna have to pick your brain I have forgotten so much in just a few years absent.
Got my range boxes loaded and headed out now to practice in this wind lol

a side note I had some of my property logged this year and guess who’s old procceser is still sitting in my place?...
Wayne.

6dasher is a beast in sling prone midrange matches. The top three spots at NRA Nationals were taken by 2 dashers and a 6BRX.

One of those dasher shooters set a new national record in March at 300 yards: 30 Xs in a row.

Alpha brass is what I use in the 6 dasher, its good stuff. Primer pockets are tight as most loads are a grain over book max. Been doing a lot of experimentation with various powders to see what velocities can be achieved. RL 15 and Varget are standard...some like H4350 but I haven't tried it yet. Tiny groups were with 108 Berger and RL 15 slightly beating Varget for accuracy, maybe depending on the day... or the shooter. Velocity goes to 2000 MR and 6.5 Staball with 107 SMK at 3133 Ave fps, 110 SMK at 3098 fps, or 115 DTAC at 3044 fps. Just tested and posted the load data elsewhere, yesterday, it was 40 degrees snow on the ground, windy and cold but the sun was out. Run 55 and 58 gr varmint bullets over 4000 fps. 70 gr Varmageddon at 3700 fps. Hodgdon has load data for the 6 dasher in the annual manual, and on their website.
