6brx strange groups

well I got to start doing some load development with my 6brx. I shot groups with varget at 32.2, 32.6 under 105 berger 105 vlds, and 33 with wolf srm primers. Every group was ok, with most rounds impacting right at 1" or under except for the first round every time would open the group up to 2 1/2". All the groups were exactly the same. Tried the same loads with 105 amax's and it was the same. I didnt clean the bore between. The rifle is a savage target action, timed and trued by SSS with a 30" 1 in 8 douglas barrel bedded in their thumbhole benchrest stock. What can I do to pull that flier back in? I have a 300 yd match on Feb 20th, and a 1000yd match on the 21st so i need help with this. thanks in advance.

are the action screws all torqued the same? otherwise, could the brass that is throwing the shots off be inconsistant somehow--runout, or different weight?

I remember correctly, the rear screw on a savage can cause some strange stuff when overtightened. You might want to ask your gunsmith about this. He may can give you a torque spec.

goldy1,

How do you have he bullets seated? Most of the time Berger's like it into the lands. I shoot mine 0.015" into the lands. The VLD's can run you crazy. I have gone to the 108's for that reason.

I'll check the torque on the action tommorrow. I had the VLDs into the lands just to where it would leave small marks on the bullet. I dont have a comparator yet, but will before too long i know i need it. I was thniking it might have been the VLD's at the wrong depth too, until i shot the amax's and they did the exact same; well they were within 1/16".

goldy1,

My gold standard for accuracy in a 6mm are the 68 or 80gr benchrset bullets. If I think it is the bullets, I try one of them, if they will not shoot, then it is the gun. I went thru this a few years back when Berger got new dies for the 105. I could not get them the new bullets to shoot, like the old ones. I was thinking the barrels was going. I tried the 80 gr, and little bug holes. When I went to the 108. That barrel did not like the new bullet, but did the 108.

You mite want to try different primers I don't no if the small wolf primers work that well i no the the wolf mags work well. and the cci br work well.

Try some RE15 and see if you experience the same thing. I bet you wont!! Make sure your barrel is clean before you start shooting the RE15. Just try it!!! Lee
