6BRX has a new little brother

Far right standard 6BR, the left is the 6BRX in the middle is my newest chambering 6BR-TC.
I shot this today after initial fireforming and was very pleasantly suprised.

I like the longer neck and the bigger engine compared to the 6br. I have a 6brx and love the heck out of it. Keep the forum updated on it, I would like to know about it.

I would like to see it next to a dasher size wise. But I like it. Of course you show me this after I got my BRX built. Keep us updated.

Wayne, this is much shorter headspace than the Shehane and maintains the original 30* shoulder not the 40* on his design. I can use 6BR dies just like the 6BRX.

Too COOL!!!

What did she chrono and I'll bet she made

itsy, bitsy, little bugholes at 100 ydsl

Birdog, I can see the hand writing on the wall, you and I need to make room in the safes for a new shoot stick :D

Tim,
that is just way cool, good job buddy and I will be giving you a phone call one day soon if you don't mind and if I haven't lost your number.
Wayne.

I didn`t take the chronograph yet as I was just starting out with loads. I don`t load at the range yet so I took 3 powder charges of Varget 31.4, 31.6 and 31.8. Took my seating die with me as I seated the Berger 105`s to max jam here at home. The first 2 loads had verticle, and the seating had to be tweeked, but by the time I got to the 31.8 load I thought I had a decent handle on seating, and the 31.8 charge gave me a .197" 5 shot group with a bullet hole high in the group. I`m thinking 31.9 to 32 grains is going to be where she shoots. I will retest the 31.8 as this was once fired brass, and that may have caused the high shot.

I truely cannot remember ever getting a group in the 1`s with this few rounds on a barrel. I fired 30 rounds Sunday for tuning purposes. Last 5 went the .197".

I am glad you guys like the little brother!! I sure do!

Wayne call anytime sir.

Re: 6BRX has a new little brother, plus .050 ???

Nice looking, your picture makes it look like half the BRX blown forward or
.050, So how far did you blow the shoulder forward?
What dies are you using for reloading the 6BR-TC?

Keep us undated on your load testing.

Thats exactly what I decided on. I wanted to use 1/2 of the BRX and keep 1/2 the BR neck length. The pics show this quite evidently. It is a BR +.050". I wanted to be able to use 6BR dies for this.

I wasn`t sure about doing something so similar to the BR-DX, but what pushed me this way is I e-mailed 2 of the best shooters I know and asked them their opinion of the BR-DX and neither replied.... :) This was quite "out of character" for these guys soooo I knew I was on the right track. 8)

Re: 6BRX has a new little brother, velocity should be in the 2930 area

Velocity
The standard 6 BR shoots the 105 about 2750 fps from a 26 inch barrel with 30.0 gr.,
then change 30.0 gr to tenths, you get 300 tenths.
Then 2750 / 300 = 9.16 feet per second per one tenth gr of Varget powder.
Shooting 32.0 gr or 320 tenths.

9.16 x 320 = 2931 fps

That depends of lot of powder variance and barrel velocity variance.

Looks to have an advantage over the standard 6 BR,
If your shooting in the high 1's, I think it worth doing.

:)

David,
I am like Tim,..I am interested in your math? I believe it is quite low but I am still interested. A 6brx will do approx. 3000 fps with a 107 SMK, I have actually been right at 3100 with it but my sons shoots best between 3000-3030 fps that is with .100 of the of the n/k and shoulder of the std. 6br blown forward which will give you 100-150 fps over the parent cartridge so if you half that, I would think you would be looking at a easy 3100-3150 fps with this ne 6brTC. I really like the sound of that,......6BRXTC ;D :D ;) take care.
Wayne.

tclaunch,

My 6BRX's can run 3050 f/s to 3100 f/s, but I have found that 2975 f/s is the best accuracy. Mike Davis, Larry Isenhour, and myself, shot our 600 yds record at this speed, same bullet and same load. Your new round should run at that speed. Some guys get hung up on speed, go for the accuracy. Keep us updated.

MarkS, Mike Davis, has done stuff for me and shed light on which you speak. I need to take the chrorgraph next outing and see where I stand.

Looks interesting.

Looks even more interesting necked up to 30.

:)

This was about letter perfect.

And as a further compliment to this math I put in a desired speed of 2980, (MarkS), and divided this by the 9.16 and see it would take 32.53275 grains to get there. This was after I shot Monday morning I took 2 charges of 31.9 and 32 grains. I took the new Hybrids with a 32.5 grain charge and presto 2980 fps.

Re: 6BRX has a new little brother, presto 2980 fps

This math works great for powder lot that vary, I’ve had powder lot varying
and it help on which way to load, that is to add or reduce the
powder charge to get to my rifle accurate velocity.
I’m going to add the MSSA range to my bucket list. It’s 665 miles south.
Good luck shooting this season.
