6brx die question...

I understand you can use a 6br die set and I have a set I'm not using. I get the neck die I just move higher in the press to accommodate for the shoulder being pushed out and I get the same for the seating die. How does one handle a full length die...do you just not size that last little bit of case at the bottom?

Just thinking things though before I mess something up.

There are several options:
1: uses a 6mmBBR sizing die to do neck and shoulder.
Buy a 6mm BR body die and have the top bored out with a carbide boring bar or
use 243, 260, 7mm/08, or 308 size die with the de-capping pin removed.

2. Buy a 6mmBRX die set from Robert Whitley, John Whidden or another custom die maker.

+1 on whidden dies. Great products and they come with a comparator to measure headspace and adjust the dies correctly.

Thanks guys.

Also, agree on the Whidden dies...I have a set of his 6 dasher dies and they are great. I like them better than my Redding comp 30br dies.

I use a 7mm-08 F/L first to size the base, then a 6BR bushing die to bump the shoulder and size the neck. I seat with a Wilson seater reamed to 6BRX. I started with a Wilson set until I needed to F/L size.

i have a .098 gauge that i space my 6br die up and use a 308 to full size if needed.that the way i was told to do it and it works for me. just my 2 cents worth. [thanks mike] one of the best guns i have.

The 308 die just squeezes the bottom .100" in that is not resized by the 6 br die. It is not even close to bumping the shoulder.

I'd rather use an Ackley Improved die in any 308 bolt faced caliber so the shoulder diameter won't be reduced due to case taper. Even the 06 family will work.

Help me I'm stupid, how do you get the short BRX case far enough into a .308 die to bump the shoulder? Duh!

Before Mr Whitley came up with Redding factory BRX dies there was always 2 dies needed to FL size the case. The 6BR FL is used to bump the shoulder, and the 308 body die to size the portion the BR does not reach.

Why are you making this hard? I shot over 2000 rounds last year out of my BRX with the same 140 cases. I bump with my Redding Type S 6BR full length bushing die. I have never needed to run the case through a body die for that last .1. I shot 3, 3 shot groups last week at 500 yds, all less than an inch. Its not rocket science! I think more time at the range and less time thinking on non existent problems would mean more shooters and less typewriter experts. Go to the range, shoot more matches, have fun.

+1 This is how Mike Davis of Davis Custom Rifles recommended before the Redding factory BRX dies. The combination works fine.
