6BRDX brass question

Phil

Gold $$ Contributor
Can someone please tell me the length of a fire formed 6BRDX case..........

I`m going to be specing a reamer and want to know what I should be looking for.

Also could you tell me what method you used to fire form your cases.

P.S.......Blue box brass.

Thanks,

Phil

I would give PT&G a call or E mail.
I am sure they have made these reamers before
and can answer your questions.

The BRDX will be the same as the Dasher or the BR. Same length chamber,my chambers are specified 1.560 for the Dasher for the short length of the blue box brass........ jim

Phil, If you use a 1.555 chamber length, you don't have to make a false shoulder. The case would be against the front of the chamber, if you believe what is written on a chamber reamer...... ;)..... jim

Using a straight seat long-and shoot method (without false shoulder), my BRDX is blowing cases to 1.543-1.546. I'm working on making that more consistent. This is with a load of 30.0 Varget, dry cases and a 105 seated hard in the lands. I have no issue with the false shoulder method, but I wanted to try the load-long-and-shoot method for simplicity.

I tried different fire-forming loads in increments up to 32.0 grains. I had a a couple split necks at the higher load so I backed down to 30.0. Rounds were very accurate during fire-forming.

Maybe if you ruff your chamber up and get a nice cross hatch with 120 grit and give the cases something to get a hold of,and they will get longer. Don't let the barrel get hot either..... jim

I like this idea..... 8)

I believe that I will use Tom's method when I get mine together. Which will be some months off in the future as I ordered a Borden action a couple of weeks ago for the build. I have turned the necks on new blue box brass to .012 and then cleaned in stainless steel media squeaky clean , then annealed them using my Benchsource machine. I will play with the neck tension for fireforming to see how the overall lengths come out.
