6brai testing

100 yard testing with Varget, Lapua brass (once fired), CCI BR-4 primer, Berger 105g Hybrids, jumped 0.006". Weather was 48 degrees, 15.5 mph from 10-11:00. Dallas area. 4 or 5 shots per target. The ECI tuner is set 1 revolution out. Target dot is 3/4" diameter. Used Seb rest and rear bag. Velocity and powder weight listed on target. No over-pressure signs. Thinking 30.9g due to 30.8-31g is only 10f/s spread between the 3 weights. Had a bad reading at 30.7g to drop the average feet per second.
Would my next step be seating depth, then play with the tuner?

The gun, if put together by a competent smith, has the potential to shoot much smaller than your targets at 100.
are you using wind flags???
i would start around 31.2 and see if it repeats. not familiar with how that tuner works but i would screw them all the way in work out once i find a good tune. any reason why you started at .006 jump instead of "in" .006-.010????

I will be curious about that 9 twist barrel with those hybrids out at distance. Stability may be an issue.
While I agree about the hybrids with a 9 twist, if it’s punching round holes at 25 yards it’ll be ok. May be losing BC over the distance but it’s not gonna start tumbling. With that said, you may not experience maximum accuracy with that bullet with that twist. Free advice as I don’t shoot at 100yd but 31.1 looks to be where I’d be playing the way I understand how to read groups up close.

31.1 for the reason Frank said above. Consistent POI from 30.9- 31.2, velocity at a good spot for that bullet both mid and long range. I don’t use a tuner but would do a jump test here to find sweet spot for group, then tweak with the tuner and see if it gets better.

Theirs another node up in the 32 grains at around 3k FPS

Not in my experiance. Every BRA barrel I have had would run over 3k fps. Now theres actions that cant handle that, and some fat bullets might be a problem but with good stuff I havent had a problem in Kriegers or Bartliens. Id keep going up, see around 32ish as well if theres no pressure sign.

30.8 - 31.2 are all located in the same area on the target. I would revisit those. Then seating depth.

Frank
This is where I would look as well. They have consistency in horizontal POI from group to group.. that's what you are looking for in the first test. Revist those to verify. Then test seating.

With 15mph winds and 24mph gusts I would not put too much stock in these results. I have seen people try to interpret what may be bad data. It doesn’t work out well. Sometimes it can point you in the wrong direction. If it were me, I would re-shoot the test but hold off for the best possible conditions. Patience pays off.

Dave.

For myself, 100 yard testing is tough as all the groups look the same. Dave’s correct, we need good data to make good decisions. Test again and hopefully increase the distance to the target.
