6BR - what powder??

When I got mine, I just looked at the "pet load list" on the cartridge guide. (Thank you, guys). I had Varget so I tried it. I shot some .3s at 100 the first time out with some Berger 105s, so I stopped there. Mine liked 29.4 , jammed "some". I say some cause my measuring technique was bad. Revised it and loaded a new batch but got sidetracked. Then, I got a couple new .223s and focused on them. Next range trip I take the 6br's. Good luck! Josh

Yep, it's a wonderment what one can find if one just takes the time to look & read

30gr. Varget, 105 berger s

I know of several shooters who've found great success with Varget in their 6mmbr's while pushing 105's, both custom actions as well as Savages. Try it as well as others and let you rifle decide. But don't be surprised if Varget out shoots the rest especially at long distance.

Varget. Mine works best with CCI-450Ms. Both of mine shoot five shot groups with 107s into the .3s easily with 29.5gr and a jump anywhere from .015" to .030". Getting 2850fps with 30" 8 twists.

Viht N150 works extremely well with 105-108s and can match or maybe even better VarGet MVs. This is a boon to us in the UK as Viht powders are much cheaper than Hodgdon numbers, and more important, are nearly always available.

For any European forum members reading this, I'd be very surprised if Reload Swiss RS52 doesn't work very well here too - I'll try it later this year to find out one way or the other.

Been a fan of AR Comp for some applications and just picked up my first 6BR. Anyone been down that road?

Used AR comp in 223 with 77s. It's a lot hotter. Shot well, ruined every piece of brass. My advice is back way off and do a proper work up. At least 3gr. There are some loads here that work in almost every application but AR comp is a different animal.

VV powder cheaper than Hodgedons. That doesn't even compute. You almost have to sell a kidney here to pick up 8# of VV powder.

Varget will probably get the most votes, but with its seemingly limited availability and its lot to lot inconsistencies, my advice is to yeah, try Varget, but find some IMR4320, Imr 4064, 4895, or VV140 and get a back up load made with one of those last 4 that I listed. One of them will work. JME.WD

I gave AR Comp a pretty fair test and with heavy bullets in a 6BR it doesn't do well.

First and foremost do not use AR-Comp with Varget or Reloder 15 charge weights or you'll never get the bolt open after the first shot. You need to go a lot lower.

AR-Comp was very accurate with 105 Berger BT's and CCI 450's with light charge weights. With what should have been moderate charges I started getting serious pressure signs. At velocities 200-250 fps slower that Varget or RL-15 it was OK but I wasn't about to give up that much.

I personally prefer RL-15 despite its temperature sensitivity. I just drop the load 0.2 to 0.3 grains when it's hot.
