6br vs 6xc velocities..

If we compared a 6br with a 26 inch barrel and a 6xc with a 26 inch barrel..... both shooting 105 gr bergers.... what kind of velocities yall reckon we'd see? Would the xc out perform by quite a bit?

Speed wise the XC has more boiler room, and as such will have more speed than the 6BR.

Accuracy wise i believe the 6BR wins out.

im building both... 1 varmint rig in 6br.... and just another barrel in 6xc for a different rig... the 6xc im using to replace a 243.... i figures they are comprable... hunting and steel shooting... no competitions...

Sounds like a win, win........

To answer your question, most people shooting 6br will get 2800-2850 fps. The 6xc depends on the powder you're using. You'd have no problem getting 3000 with the most commonly used powders but I've been using R-17 and 3200 is no problem and no pressure issues.

SWEEEET! Yeah I'm building this 6br in a varmint/target style rig for the fiance to hunt with, yall are gonna freak at this but I'm putting a brake on it too where there is virtually no recoil at all I'm presuming... I know I know a 6br doesnt need a brake, but its being set up for a recoil sensitive lady... Is what it is.....

On the other hand with the 6XC, its for me and I am hoping to end up with a fast barrel and be able to make em scream.... I'm doing a 22-250 for mainly varmints out to 400 yards or so, but I like to play long too so thats where I plan to let the 6XC play mostly hunting wise... And head shots on deer... other than that its all steel pushing it as far as I can get the bullet to accurately fly!

Get her good hearing protection. Really good. I work with a lot of people. Many of them are flinching due to noise, not recoil.

You might consider a Dasher or other 6 BR Improved in place of the 6 XC to keep one kind of raw brass around. Both do well with Varget, too, so one powder. All small rifle primers, etc.

Heck, just build one barrel and tone it down for her.

I have both. The 6br is about 2850 - 2900 with a 105-107 gr bullet. The 6xc is normally in the neighborhood of 3050-3100+. Accuracy wise I'd say the 6xc is equal or better out to about 12-14 shots in 15 minutes. And if you're shooting varmints long range, the 6xc blows the 6br away. It has a MUCH flatter trajectory and equal or better accuracy. Then if you REALLY want to see something, get a 12 or 14 twist 6xc and go with 68-75gr bullets ..... very impressive both on paper and varminting. WD

But this way I have an excuse to have two different rifles..... ;D I'm glad she don't read this forum!

Cool, I was hoping its break 3000+ fps. As far as the 60's gr bullets go, I'm leaving that up to the new 22-250AI that I am getting chambered too...

Sounds like a bunch of rifles, but I have one custom rig thats about to be set up switch barrel with 6XC, 260 tactical, 22-250AI, and 308... Then one rem 700 6BR rifle...

I dropped tons of money into the custom rig so I figured I may as well, that way I don't have to buy that many more expensive scopes... Get more use out of it all, maybe even some wear marks on the grip haha!

I would expect 300 FPS more out of the XC with 105 class bullets . If it is just for making red furry pizzas , I would go with a 10 twist and 87 g vmax . At 3300 + a thousand yards is very doable . As for a break on the BR , I would see how she likes it without one . Breaks are an annoyance for both the shooter and the poor sap next to them .
