6br velocity

I just got a trued Remington 700 6br with .274 no turned neck, 24" 1-8 Krieger shooting 105 Berger's 15 tho into the lands starting out at 30.0 grains of Varget and only getting 2700fps. Group sizes range from .3 to .5. Iv gone up to 30.5 grains with some pressure signs but only an increase of about 50fps. Iv messed around with seating depth and found that 15tho is best but I was wondering if there is any other powder to get a little higher velocity or am I limited with the barrel length. The reason I am concerned is that I heard that the vld Berger's like it around 2800fps and was wondering if I am losing any accuracy from the slower speed. Also I have H4895 and R15 powders but not sure what weight to start out at.

Chuck,

Thats the combo I shoot but only .005" in the L&G's. I only get 2,842 fps. I use to shoot 30.8 of RL-15 with the 107SMK's and they were at 2,920 fps, not a big diff. The VLD's will shoot flatter and faster down range as compared to the SMK's and will do so at a slower start velocity. I think most VLD's shoot best at 2,900-3,000 fps but, barrel length, free bore and bore & grove diameter will dictate the outcome as far as velocity goes. I'd just shoot it like you have it and enjoy. The 6mmBR is a great little cartridge. When I had 2,500 rounds through mine I cut 2" off the chamber end and re-chambered it. Man that thing hammers now. I just shoot two 5 shot groups Sunday at 200 yards, they measured .384" and .311". Good luck and good shooting.

Try VV550. I am loading 30.5 gr. of VV550 and the 107 SMK bullet and getting 2850 fps in my wife's 29" 1:8 barrel with superb accuracy. I think that I can go up in powder charge and get real close to 3000 fps as the pressures seem mild, but it shoots too good to fiddle with it. BTW, I am using CCI small rifle magnum primers - why, because I read it somewhere................stupid reasonong but it works.

I found RL15 to definately give better velocity, and accuracy in my 6BR. I was only getting 2670-2720 fps. out of a 28" Krieger with Varget/Sierra 107 MK, with heavy bolt lift. I now use RL15 with the Berger 108 BT, and am getting 2800-2860, with just a slight primer crater when velocity gets above 2860. For some reason, my most accurate loads are jumping EVERY brand of bullet,95-108 gr,) I've tried, .010. I don't know why this is. But it works in my weapon.
