6BR varmint and deer gun

first off, this is my first post here so I apologize if this is a repeat.
My plan is to get a Remington 700 action and have a 8" twist 6mmBR/Norma barrel installed and have same put in a chassis. A rail of some sort for 20 MOA and Burris Mounts for some more.
I would like to keep the barrel length around 20" and I'm sold on the 6BR with the added COAL of the Norma. I was thinking a 22BR for a minute but the 6 was more appealing for ease of use and slightly larger game. I'm going to get a fixed 6X eventually for it but, my goal is a light, accurate, low recoil, whitetail vermin gun that is fun to shoot.
I don't plan to shoot competitively with it so splitting hairs in group size is not a concern but I do want an accurate rifle. So I'm looking for suggestions on brass, bullets, primers, powder, triggers, and barrels/installed.

6br will work fine. Killed deer with mine this past year. Dont recoil much at all.

105 berger vld
Lapua brass
Varget
Pick your primer, see what works better...

Jewell trigger

Kreiger, brux, bartlien, rock creek, hawk hill. Take your pick. 8 twist.

Then find a gunsmith.

For this cartridge/bullet combination you won't need that much due to the limitations of the cartridge/bullet. I would go along with the 20 MOA rail but that's certainly more than enough. A zero rail would be sufficient. The reason is energy on target. You will get to run this at about 400-450 yards to stay within the realm of 1,000 ft/lbs. of energy at your target, at least for deer. So that much elevation is a tad overkill.

The other components necessary for running this rifle are fairly standard as pointed out above. Most everyone agrees on:

Lapua brass
Bartlein, Brux, Krieger, etc. for barrels. 4-groove is great but the average 5R will perform terrifically.
I use Re-17 which works at a lower pressure and slightly higher velocity than Varget. Plus I get better accuracy.
I skip the Match primers for this type of hunting cartridge as the added expense rarely gives any appreciable improvement in accuracy.
You can get a new Remington trigger tuned easily for hunting weight but most of us prefer a Jewell.
Try to test fit the chassis you will consider. They do NOT all fit as advertised and you want this rifle to fit you as precisely as possible.
Scopes are really personal. Your 6x may be fine for you but I would look at a variable up to 10x for a little extra magnification. Consider a BDC reticle.

Regards.

There are oodles of 6mm bullets to choose from, so don't feel like ya gotta find one 'do it all bullet' for your 6BR. With a 1:8 twist, you could load a, 87Vmax for fun vermin poppin', an 80TTSX for reliable whitetail perforation, and a 95-105gr 'match' boolit for LR fun.

If ya did wanna load only one boolit, a 95 or 105gr HVLD would cover all your bases, nicely...

Have fun!

Thanks all. I'm at the point where this little round makes a lot of sense for so many reasons. I primarily hunt whitetail in Michigan. Although they can get big it's nothing this round can't handle. Anything larger that may require "more" gun and I have a nicely tuned 280AI for the task.
I'm well over the fire breathing monster and lead down range guns and want a tough, light, accurate gun that will kill deer cleanly and just bumps the shoulder.

As long as your going to get a custom barrel why not a 6 BRX. 6.5 x 47 Lapua looks good to me.

I have at least 4 6BR rifles and really like that cartridge a lot. I have killed many Deer with it as well as Coyotes, Bobcats and Ground Hogs. I would suggest that you at least "Consider" a barrel length
around 21 to 21 1/2 inches. Muzzle blast get a little loud with 20 inches and the 21 1/2" is still short enough to be very handy and plenty lite. Good luck with your project, you will really enjoy that cartridge/rifle combination.....

Thanks. I will probably add the extra inch or so. Any reduction in noise is a good thing.

As mentioned there are many bullets to choose from. Three more proven performers are 85 SGK 105 A-Max and 95 NBT. I have used the three and watched the 85 SGK impress time and time again at mid range with little recoil.

The 87 Gr Hornady V-Max and the 85 Gr Hornady Interbond are both great bullets and generally shoot to the same point of impact, ( out to 300 to 400 yds) all other things being equal ie powder, primer etc. The 90 Gr. Nosler Accubond and the 90 Gr Scirocco are also great bullets. One of my favorite bullets, that I have had a lot of positive experience with, is the 70 GR Nosler BT.. The wonderful variety of truly great bullets is just one of the things That makes the 6mm such a good choice....

First off congrats on selecting the 6BR. It's simple, accurate, easy to tune and effective. I don't shoot competition but I have used this caliber in half a dozen rifles with great success on deer, hogs and vermin. My seven kids grew up shooting 6BRs too and now half of them own their own. Lots of good bullets have been mentioned already. One of my favorite for deer and hogs is 85 grain partitions, surprisingly accurate, deadly. I'm sure your enjoying the wealth of information on this site, it's a treasure trove. I have one with an 18" barrel that use more than any of them, I also have a 22 inch and 24 inch. 8twist is a good choice and a shorter freebore will allow you to enjoy some the fun to shoot lighter bullets. Enjoy your project and let us know what you decide.

I didn't read my post until now, don't know why it put second instead of accubond . 90 gr. Works really good for both coyotes
and deer. If your gun likes them.

This is mine. I just got it not a week ago. 25" Krieger 1 in 8. Remmy SS action and a 40x kevlar stock. She shoots well.

I'll shoot some hogs this summer with it hopefully.

I'm convinced :D I may go 6BRX but hard to argue with what is already so good. Now if my luck will just change. Had my well head get struck by lightning. So a new 3/4 hp pump, 40/60 switch and 36 gallon pressure tank later. Fun money got ate up quick. It might be a little bit until it happens but it will happen.
