6br/varget/105/max load

Hi folks, am shooting 2 trued rem 700's in 6br. 1 has a 28' barrel the other a 29' barrel, both 4 groove kreigers. Am shooting berger 105vld's..My freebore is .134 which takes the base of the 105 almost completely out of the shoulder area. So far i'm shooting 31.2-31.5grs of varget.Have not ran these past a chronograph yet but have shot two, 7' 10shot groups and a 4' 5shot group at 1k,the first time out) No heavy bolt lift,an occasional ejector mark and an occasional slight crater. Do you guys think this is too hot of a load or is it on par with my looong freebore? I know the classic load is 30.0grs/varget but it seems that these folks all have around .050-.090 freebore give or take....chris

The load is a tad on the hot side, as inidcated by the ejector marks. BUT the groups are wonderful.

You did nto mention where the bulelts were inrelation ot the lands. ie jammed or jumped. My guess is that your are jamming them to ge the extra case capacity.

I would back of about a half grain ans see what happens.

I shoot similar loads with no problems but I have a Quadlock action. I have heard that people with less stiff actions having problems with loads in the 31.x range.

Yes I did foget to mention that the bullets were seated to just touch the lands. For my next 1k match I'll back them down to 31.0 or so...At 31.0 grs I can hear powder shake slightly so it is not compressed...

I use 30.5 gr. of Varget/CCI450/105VLD or 108BT and have never had a problem. 2940 fps, 7 fps E.S. 28 inch Kreiger.

danny, what kind of freebore do you have on that?

I forgot to mention that I too am using cci450's and my 700 bolt firing pins have been bushed

I have two 6BR's one with .060 freebore the other with .104.
They both shoot about the same.

Lyn, I shot my last match with the 105s just touching. Will the pressure go up or down if I push them into the lands say .015 with my 31.5 load? I get an occasional ejector mark and a crater here and there but bolt lift is fine and that is with brass that has been fired 3-5 times.
Also is your 31.5 load compressed? it seems that 6br's like to be packed in,??)

Lyn also too,I'm running about .002 neck tension,.262nk,.2602 loaded od,.258 bushing.

doesn't jamming that much pull the bullet out i find JUMPING THE 105 AMAX 15 THOU BETTER
