6BR Twist

New to the forum so please forgive me if I am start a new thread on an old topic.

I am looking to re-barrel my Cooper Model 22 to a 6BR. Most of my shooting is at 150yds, but would like to shoot out to 500 or 600yds. I don't want to sacrifice accuracy at 150yds using a lighter grain Cheek bullet to be able to shoot out to 600yds. I am stuck on picking what twist I should go with, a 1-13.750 twist or to a 1-10 twist.

I am looking for those of you that have experienced going with a 1-10 twist a found that the lighter grain custom bullets don't deliver the same accuracy at 150yds in a 1-10 twist rather than what you get with a 1-14.

Also what impact will it have on the throat of the barrel?

Thanks for looking and responding.

Jim

Start with the heaviest, longest bullet you want to shoot and then make your twist call from that. Don't worry about the throat wearing but be cognizant of freebore requirements for whatever bullets you want to use when calling out specs for the reamer.

Go here for more definitive info on the 6BR:

+ 3 on the 1/8. I've shot the slower twist, lighter bullets at long range and I'm not saying they won't shoot (and shoot well in ideal conditions) but they give up to much to the wind at longer ranges. My $.02.

You need to first pick what Bullet you would like to shoot then pick a twist
