6BR to a 6Dasher?

I have a 28" Shilen Select Match in 6BR. It has around 200 rounds down the pipe. Is it possible to have it set back and re-chambered for a 6Dasher? Also what other calibers could I consider chambering in this barrel?

I would set it back 150K and rechamber to the Dasher. However, ANY of the 6mm cartridges could be used in that barrel as long as it is a .473 boltface. Unless of course you want to change bolts.. BUT if you want to keep the same bolt, then you need to look at cartridges with the .473 boltface..

No need to set it back that much with only 200 rounds through it. The Dasher shoulder will cut into the 6BR neck by ~.100, so it should clean up nice. Also, the Dasher should clean up the 6BR body because of it has a longer body.

Other options are 6BRX, 6x47 Lapua, 6XC, 6mm SLR, .243 Winchester, 6-284, and any other cartridge that is bigger than the 6BR, which most are.

I have 5 6BR's. I hear some amazing things about the Dasher. I'm wanting something a little different to "play" with. Im a tinkerer and it's winter. Lol I need a project and I have this Savage that needs to be shot. So why not? I was also thinking about another 6 Creedmoor but I have over 2500 pieces of Lapua BR brass.

If you want to "play" with an amazing cartridge, try the 6mm Rem A.I. I had one and it was SUPER accurate! I used it for hunting and I drove the 95gr Combined Tech bullets at a bit over 3400f.p.s. in a 26" barrel. It hammered deer to the ground like you pulled the rug out from under them! If it would not burn barrels out so quickly, I would use it in F-Open. But under those conditions, I would guess that 800 or so rounds and you would be looking for a new barrel..

I know someone that tried it for F-Open, and things did not go well towards the end of a 20 shot string. I don't know if it was an AI, but it was at least a 6mm Remington.

I wonder why? Mine shot with 10 or less e.s. (I can't remember exactly) and it shot "about" 1/2" to 3/4" (5 shot groups) at 200 yards and it was a hunting rifle! In a full blown F-Open rifle and 105 VLD's it should perform incredibly til it ran it's course in the barrel.. I wonder what he may have been doing?

I already have a 6AI in a 700 BDL. I think I wanna stay with a BR based cartridge.

Under those circumstances then, I would go with a Dasher. Easy to form, 150+ gain in speed over the BR and just as accurate! Superb round!

Rechamber to the BRX. That way you can still use your 6mm BR dies for reloading. You only need a 308 body die to complete the sizing.

Same performance as a Dasher with no additional expense in loading gear.

Bob

I would set it back the length of the neck, no chance of a mistake with the neck diameter……… you will never go back to a BR……. jim

Who would be the best to send it to? I really don't trust any of my local Smiths to do a job like this. They don't know too much about odd calibers or building precision rifles

I live in SW PA. I've had Dave Bruno do some work for me in the past. Great Guy!! It's a pretty far drive but if he has the reamer then he's the guy I'm goin to see. Thanks Jim

I don't see anything about your twist. Can you do a dasher in like a 14 t ? What tip would you shoot ?

thanks

I think you will find they are using 8 twist or faster, but you could use 14 but it wouldn't shoot the light bullets as good as 8 twist shoots the heavy 105 class bullets….. jim
