6BR Seating problem

My 6BR Remington factory primed brass is giving me problems.
When seating bullets the necks and or shoulders collapse.

All case mouths are chamfered. All bullets are boat tail.

I ran them over Sinclair's expander. This helps but if I feel any resistance at all I have to spin the round 180 degrees to avoid another cave in.

A big pain in the butt when trying to load enough cases to shoot a High Power match.

Suggestions welcome,
Kent

The OD is .268, neck thickness is .013 so the ID is .242

I have a few thousand of these cases. All are factory anealed.

I backed the Forester seating die out about .100" less collapses but I still have to be careful not to force it.

Culd the seater die neck area be tooo small....measure it...use a small hole guage or a drill bit or sumthin.....sounds like some of the old BR stuff....they used to think everybody was going to use tight neck chambers, which were in vogue during the early days when most chambers and brass were 1.520 length) and there was not enough clearance for a non turned,,or bigger than what wuld fit in a .262 +/- chamber)) neck to go in ....it culd be a press fit and sometimes there is enough clearance and then sometimes there aint!!!!! ....just ponderin....I have fooled with these BR's since the 70's and have made just about every mistake that you can think of..and seen all sorts of weird and non standard dies and chambers etc. Roger
PS..the equipment is tryin to tell U sumpthin....dont ruin any more brass!!!!!! How are you resizeing them??? What bushing is working.???The bullet is .243 and .013 x 2 = .026 ...add it up =.269" ...I'm thinkin there aint that much diameter in the seater die neck area...or it culd be for the 1.520 brass,,,too short in the neck area!!!!!let us know if this is it....

Sounds like some die issue of some sort. Borrow another set from someone or buy another set and try them. You can sometimes find used ones here very reasonable. If the brass is Lapua you can't afford to waste cases! Good luck and let us know how this turns out. I have loaded 1,000's of 6BR's and never crushed a neck.

Thanks for the info everyone.
The die set is as new - but was likely made in the early 90s.

I broke the seater die down and dropped some cases into the sleeve. The factory brass just fits into the neck section; WITHOUT the bullet.

I feel pretty dumb. I should have checked it out at the first sign of trouble.

Glad you figured it out. So now what will you do, just leave the seater die higher up so the case does not go in as far? Or are you saying it is tight necked die?

Yes it is a tight neck.
I sent Forster an email to make sure the sleeves are not hard.
I may be able to run my chamber reamer in to open up the neck.

Good News...I'm glad U got it figgered out....that is one of the many benefits of these open forums....I probably rambled on in my earlier response---but just trying to help...sometimes the solution is rite there in front of us...we need to learn from the mistakes of others....we wont live long enough to make all the mistakes or solve all the mysteries on our own....
Once you get the die neck opened up...seat em just hard enough in the lands to put a mark on the bullet aprox twice as long as it is wide....just a lil feel when you close the bolt....Roger
