6BR Remington 40X 1in 12" with .262" chamber and 27.5" bbl

Just purchased this rifle and wanted to know if anyone with this type of setup had some favorite load combination's that worked well for them. I have some 55 grain C/T Ballistic Tips, 65 grain V-maxes, 70 grain Sierra Blitzking's, and 80 grain Berger's. Powders I have at the moment that I believe will work well are H322, H4895, and Varget. I have CCI 400 primers but will probably pick up some of the 450's since it looks like the preferred choice and see how they do. I already have 1000 cases of Lapua that have been turned already. Just wanted to see any of your favorites out there and if you could explain why. Thank you in advance I would appreciate your responses.

soldierofchrist,
Your really going to hate that gun, there peices of junk!!! just to show you what kind of guy I really am I will take it off your hands to save you the headace's :D LOL Just kidding sounds like a peach. I am shooting the 65 v-max for ground hogs and plinking and 68 gr barts for showing off ;) Mine seems to like a stiff charge of Varget, to tell ou the truth I bought all the popular powders for the little 6br but stopped with the first powder combo I tried, way under 1/2" with the v-max and a ragged hole with the barts @ 100 yards I was out of the cci 450s so I used 205m I don't think I will bother trying anything else in it. good luck sir and enjoy.

can't go wrong with the wolf srm primers. they are a lot cheaper (price wise) and i have been using them exclusivley due to their consistency

80 gr Bergers and a stiff load of Varget may surprise you on targets. 75gr Vmax with the H4895 for varmints. Keep the H322 for bullets in the 55-65gr range.

So far best loads in my 6BR have been 68 and 69 grain Bergers, with a full charge of Varget to get 3400 fps, using BR-4 primers. Barts 68 are a close third, and the 80 grain Bergers a little further back. 62 Grain Bergers were a bust in my gun. Can't get a group under 1.5".

soldierofchrist ,

Do you know if it is a Remington chamber, I it is a older chamber from remington, it could have a shorter neck than the Laupa, and may be a little smaller in the butt also. The remington neck is 1.520" the lapua is 1.560". Chamber one of your cases, if it is too short, it will roll the neck in. Then you will have to trim to fit. If the butt is tight, a small base die will help. The first 2 6BR a had were the shot neck. Also the Remington has a larger firing pin hole. cad can be prone the crater primers with some loads, CCI BR-4 primers will help. Also the loads about will work. I like VV N135 and 80 gr bullets for accuracy loads and 70gr Sierria Blitzkings for hunting.

It is the Norma chamber, so it handles the Lapua cases just fine. I actually traded for the rifle with my father. He had the gun built as a varmint/bench rifle but only put about a 150 rds down the barrel and it sat for awhile. He needed a three gun rifle so I traded a Rock River Arms EOP 24" Varmint model for it. I got the die sets and the brass with it. I also got about 400 rounds loaded half with the 55 grain C/T's and the other half with 74 grain Berger's. I have been getting into bench shooting a little more and he does Cowboy action shooting and three gun and neither of us had to go out and buy new rifles so it worked out well.

soldierofchrist,

That is good. My second 6BR, I asked the smith if the reamer was for Lapua brass, he said it was, but when I picked it up, he said I needed to trim the brass to 1.520", I was pissed. I later had the chamber open to the long neck. Look up this on this web site http://www.6mmbr.com/Schronce600.html. Good luck with your BR.

I can see that being an annoying hindrance

I have a 13.5 twist and it shoots 70 gr Sierra Matchking bullets very well. Shoots 70 gr Blitzkings good and 70 gr Nosler ballistic tips slightly better.

I tried H322 and Varget powder with good results, but N135 and N133 shoot much better. Based on my old targets I would say a 30% improvement on average. N133 shoots better one day and N135 the next. More expensive powder but worth it.

I've only tried Federal 205m and Rem 7 1/2 primers. Hard to say for sure but it appears the 205m gives better results.

with my 6BRs 75 grns and under are more consistent with CCI400s, 105s are more consistent with CCI450s, I have just ladder tested with 80grn Noslers but the chrony stopped so i will need to go back to check that out.

The 450s can take a real thump compared to the 400s so if you don't have the bushed bolt face you may choose to go with them anyways....
