6BR Norma Headspace Gauges

I have a Savage Short Action and I want to order a prefit barrel. I will need go/no go gauges to headspace the barrel on the action.

Thanks Texas10

You really only need a GO gauge. Use the GO gauge to set the barrel where you can close the bolt but if you put a piece of scotch tape (about .002 thick) on the back of the GO gauge the bolt closes but with some pressure. With 2 pieces of scotch tape it won't close (that is your NOGO gauge for free, relatively)

They are (the same, that is.) There were minor differences in case diameter just above the extraction groove, but that was more in practice than by design. The specs on the cases (as far as I know) are actually identical.

What is the caliber stamped on the side of a prefit barrel. 6mmBR REM caliber is obsolete. When people talk 6mmBR they are talking about 6mmBR Norma. The head stamp on my Lapua brass is 6mmBR Norma. Make sure you don't get a Rem version reamer. I'm sure this will start a pissing match about the difference in the two. Not sure but I think Rem still sells the 6mm BR Rem in the model 40X rifle. Buy the Lapua brass even if it's expensive. I have about 9 reloads on my brass and I expect many more reloads. I bought my 6BRmm Norma barrel from Kelby's. They sold me Redding 6BR Rem FL dies. They work with either version of 6BR. I also bought Redding FL bushing dies, they are labled 6mmBR Rem. I have reloaded about 5000 cases with these dies.

I ordered a head space gage at the same time as my new Shilen 6BR barrel, and glad I did as I ended up switching the barrel onto another action after initial break in. Of course, I could have used a fire formed case to set the new barrel in the new action, but in the end I got it to within .001" and that's good enough.
