6BR neck bushing die for 20BR??

Can I use my Redding 6BR die with different bushings to neck brass down to .204?? I have SSS building me a 20BR right now and any info/tips would help. Thanks everyone for any input.

Charlie

yes you can use a 6BR neck bushing die with the correct 20 cal bushing, but you will want to put a 20 cal neck expander button in that die as well. I dont know what size neck you are chambering for but you may also need to purchase a 20 BR body die due to the fact that the bushing neck die will not size the neck completely down to the neck/shoulder junction and will most likely keep the round from chambering. Im running a .233 neck and form my 6mmBR lapua brass to 20BR this way:

1) run through a .245 neck bushing

2) run through a .232 neck bushing

3) lube case and run through a 20BR body die

4) trim to desired length, chamfer, & deburr

5) turn necks to 13.5 thousandths thickness

Im sure someone can tell you a quicker and easier way but this is the best I can do for my chamber. GOODLUCK

Thanks Fastnflat1,
I'm not sure yet on the neck. When he built my 6BR I asked for no turn neck. What twist do you run? Mine will be an 11 twist Krieger so 40's and I hope that new 45 that hornady offers. Any ideas as to what powder would be good for this application and if I keep my loads mild what type of round count will a barrel normally last.

Thanks
Charlie

potato, a lapua no turn should be .235 or so by my operations. neck down a piece of your brass, seat a bullet, and measure neck O.D. and add .002 . Im running a 9 twist on my first 20 BR, shoots 39 SBK and 50 bergers well. I started with H4350 and was shooting in the twos but was short about 600 fps. switched to viht N530 and got what i wanted. Varget also performed well. Im waiting on the finishing of my 2nd 20 BR, this one with 11 twist dedicated to the 39, 40, and maybe 45s, just have to try them. when i pick this up from smith im dropping off parts to do a 20 dasher on a 12 twist and Ive been told its possible to stabilize a 50 berger out of a 12 twist if velocity is over 4000 fps. Im goin to see if i can accomplish that but guessing that the dasher might be a little short on powder. if so i ll try the 20-250 AI for giggles. as far as round count i cant say as i only have about 300 down the tube so far. take it for what its worth to you but a gentleman told me he had over 4000 rnds down his 20-250.

Fred's reamer is a .236 neck. I run my brass through a 22br seater with the guts removed, then a 22br sizer with guts removed, then 20br(your 6br will work) with a .235 bushing and then the .231. Loaded rounds are .233 which is a little sloppy in a .236 chamber but the .232 bushing does not have enough neck tension.

Thanks furman for Freds reamer spec! So fast I want to hear how the dasher works and to think about a .20-250 getting 4000 rounds down the tube. WOW! I would look into that one myself if they start making 50+ grain 20 cal varmint bullets. I hope they do!
