6BR load length, Savage F-class

I have a Savage 6BR F-class (SKU #18533), and am loading Berger 105 BT's (24428). According to Berger's manual, the COAL should be 2.441, but my rifle will only allow up to 2.320 before I start stuffing it into the lands.

I called Berger, and lo and behold, this seems to be a problem they have receive MANY calls on recently (don't know how long that means). According to the gentleman I was speaking to, it appears Savage has started manufacturing all their barrels, at least in 6BR, to accommodate rifles loaded from magazines (I.e., shorter throats). Seems kinda stupid to put a barrel like that in a, clearly, single shot rifle. His suggestion was to ream the throat to allow load lengths for the bullet I would be using, in this case the 105 BT and Hybrid.

Probably a thread on this somewhere, but I couldn't find it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hope this helps...

If your shooting the rifle in factory class matches that would throw you into factory class, although other that that its a good idea. You might try using 90 or 95 grain bullets see if they work, you will be giving less up than you might think.

Savage building a 6MM BR F-Class Rifle. ( 1 in 8 twist barrel) The Barrel should be throated to load 105 Gr class Bullets. Berger's being a Popular bullet for shooting F-Class 600 and 1000 yards should be able to be loaded/ seated to maximize accuracy. In my Savage F-Class with a 6MM Berger 105 gr Hybrid bullet. My bullet seated @ 2.410 OAL is just touching the lands. Oh my rifle also shooting the 6MM 80 Gr Berger pretty well.

I have actually loaded the 95 (24427) bullet, and can’t get it anywhere near the 2.441 spec. That being said, it shoots them very well. My point was more about the face they build the darn things very short throated. It causes the bullet to be seated deeper into the brass, using volume I’d like to have to raise the powder load. 6BR’s can use it at the 600-1000 range

Don’t know how long ago you bought your rifle, but the Berger guy said it was something that has cropped up more recently. My gun is only a few months old.

If your shooting at 600yds try the 95g bullets
You can run them a little faster, they have less drop and almost the same drift
as the heavier bullets. It changes when you go out to 1000

PRS has really taken over the market it seems.

To me it is just another indication the bean counters are in control. Sad. With the overall buying frenzy there is no need to consult the base market. Although with the prices I am seeing on rifles your speaking of and the number of super deals I have seen on used custom benchguns this winter I would certainly not be buying an ill designed factory rifle.

I've probably had the rifle 3 1/2 -4 years now and I believe it was manufactured the year before.
