6BR in a 700 short action

I am getting close to the end of a creedmoor barrel on my factory stock rem 700 short action. I am really considering a 6br or BRA. This rifles sole purpose is PRS matches. Everyone I know and shoot with that runs a BR uses custom actions. I really don't want to build a new rifle right now, but I also do not want to rebarrel into a cartridge that will not feed well through a factory 700 short action. Does anyone have any experience or input on running a BR through a factory unmodified 700 short action?

My rig tips the scales around 16lbs and I would love to have a lighter recoiling rifle compared to my current 6.5 cm....... But with components the way they are, I also might just rebarrel in 6.5 CM because I have good stock in brass, bullets, powder and LR primers. I would be starting over with a BR and that sucks with all the shortages. What is a shooter to do.......

I use a KRG chassis and AI mags currently. I see there's a few companies that make magazine kits.

Would switching to 6mm Creedmoor reduce recoil enough? Still use your 6.5 brass and just neck down to 6mm.
Its on the list of options.... The only draw back is barrel life. But that's not a 100% show stopper I guess. I feel like the 6x47/ 6XC would have very similar barrel life and recoil, with the creedmoor being the harshest of the 3, and if I'm going to run a larger case cartridge, I might as well run them fast and get all its advantages.

I’m assuming you’re using AI mags.
If that’s the case there are spacer kits available for them and they feed near perfectly.

We have 3 - 6BR rigs built on remy 700's that feed well. Two of them are running MDT 6br mags and one has Primal rights kit in AI mag. The one thing that I see as a required mod for total reliability is the Sako/M16/mini-M16 extractor.

When there is an issue with the 6 BR in a Rem 700 its not so much the Feeding ( which some times is an issue) but more so the ejection. The case is so short it puts almost NO pressure on the Little round Ejector Button on the bolt face to give it enough Umph to kick the empty case out of the port. Very frustrating in a Timed event. upon extracting the case follows the right raceway where the right bolt lug rides in the action. this leads to a real steep angle for the case and no spring pressure on the ejector.
Personally I would just go with above mentioned Cartridges for now and save some headaches for a whole season or do it on a back up rifle not your main rifle. ( you do have a back up rifle right? LOL) The 6GT address's all these issues so take a look at that as well.
More practice in position and less worrying about cartridge's might increase your score more so than a switch to 6BR. Just a thought.

I run a 6br, A 6BRA, and a 6.5x47.
The recoil is definitely less in the little BR cartridges. Barrel life, accuracy and tune in the BR is the easy button. Feeding from mags can be a bit of frustration. I have ARC, MDT, and AICS mags with all the above mentioned kits. Different chassis/stocks/ bottom metal will determine which combo works. But it will work fine. As Paul above said, 6.5x47 won't disappoint. I love mine. The 6x47 will cook barrels quicker in PMS rapid fire scenarios.

Why would a person need a heavier contour for PRS?
I prefer my rifle to be on the heavy heavy side with most of my weight out front. Because I'm still shooting a 6.5, I have real trouble spotting my impacts(and misses!) Inside 500 yards. I've been putting in alot of practice in this department and the heavier I can get my rifle, the better its getting for me. And because I'm running a KRG chassis, they don't exactly weigh very much. I have lead stuffed in every nook and crevis of that thing with weight kits bolted on the outside. I'm at a real crossroads here. If the supply deal doesn't change soon, I'm going to have to stick with the creedmoor just because I can't get retooled and stocked up on supplied to load for a BR class cartridge.
