6br help please

Hello Everyone
I can not get the heavy bullets to shoot in my guns. I have a Pac-nor and a Benchmark barrel both are 1-8 twist. When ordered I just told them I wanted it chamber in a 6br norma to shoot the heavy bullets. Tried wolf magnum and cci magnum primers,Varget ,Reloader 15 ,and norma203b ,and a few other powders. As bullets go tried Berger 105,105vld,108 ,hornady 105, and sierra 107 bullets. Started low and worked up. Some times they shoot good at 100yds, and the next time they would not shoot at all. Bullets where seated to just touch or slight jam in the lands. Also tried the 87 v-max same results. Then went to the 75 v-max in both rifles they shoot in the 1's and 2's at 100 yds on 3 and 5 shot groups 31 grs of Varget. One barrel likes the bullet touching and the other one likes around 5thounds jump. I would like to shoot the heavier bullets for our out to 500 yard local shoots . I think that the heavier bullets will handle the wind a lot better. Any ideas on what to try next?
Thanks for the help

First off, have you validated that you received 8T barrels?

If your light bullets shoot, and they are indeed 8T, there is no reason that the heavier bullets cannot shoot also.

Wolf SRM primers/CCI450 will light 30gr of Varget and with a 105-107gr bullet you should be in the ball park. No magic required there.

Define heavy bullets "Not Shooting"?

You haven't told us any thing about your rifles or bench set up. Are both barrels for one rifle? were they chambered with the same reamer? As some one else asked have you confirmed the twist rate in the barrels? 87s will shoot in a 1:9 twist the 105 VLD will not. What kind of rifles are they? have you checked your bedding for inconsistancies? are you shooting the same brass in both barrels? Is your bench set up consistant? Front rest locks up solid rear bag not to hard or binding the stock.
Shooting consistant 5 shot 1s and 2s is not to bad do you do this every time with the 87s? Try Lynn's load as that is also my 600 yard load and is very accurate. Do you have a VLD seating stem in your seating die? if not you could be seating the bullets from from the point instead of the ogive, Phil at Sinclair's can get you on the right track if the seating stem needs replacing, there is a reason I know that!
God luck

hoene72,

Sometimes those type gages can lie to you, I have had it happen. Check your bullets by making a round with out powder and polish the bullet with steelwool, chamber the round and see the riflings marks on the bullet, square markes will be about 0.020" into the lands. Then go from there.

Sometimes just touching can cause you problems. You can be touching on one bullet and not on the next. I like to in or out, but not very close.

I'm not really qualified to try and give advice on this but I'll give it a try. If I am wrong someone correct me so that I don't point this gentelman in the wrong direction.

Just going on what he said about ordering his barrel and that he told pacnor that he wanted to shoot the heavy bullets. Could it be that this information was misunderstood? Could the barrel have been chambered with a short freebore? maybe the heavy 105,107,108s are seated to deep into the case. Is there a doughnut in the shoulder/neck juction and causing a lot of runout? I would think in a 1in8 twist if he is shooting the 75s good maybe you are seating the heavier bullets to deep? Like I side I'm not sure if this might be the case but that would just be my first guess.

Have you tried different seating depths instead of just jamming? When I work up a load, I tend to start with a middle of the road powder charge and only vary seating depth. Once I find the depth that works best, then I vary the powder charge. Then if I have the time, I go back and vary depth at that charge. I also have never won a benchrest match however ;D
