6BR Encore

Howdy,

I'm thinking about a 6 BR for an Encore. Just to shoot for fun, maybe some GH hunting. To anyone that has or has had in the past, is the Encore a good platform for this cartridge. What about barrel length and twist, will a 10 twist stabilize a heavier bullet in 15 inches of barrel?) Recoil, and chamber specs. Any advice would be greatly received.

The Encore is a great platform. But be advised that to load and shoot you are going to have to break the gun open which means moving it on the bags which means it will be a little inconsistent.

I use an encore in 7-08 for deer and hog hunting and have a 223 barrel for other varmints. It is a very handy and light package.

Go to www.ontargettechnology.com also www.bellmtcs.com. There was a Gun of the Week featuring an Encore some months back that was ridicoulosly accurate.

I've had some good results with this Encore in 6PPC, it is now a 6BR.

My fat bellied friend in Ohio has a 6br Encore and can't say enough good about it.
He has a 22br for it also, and a 375 H&H if I ever give it back to him....

Fixinit did you buy the barrel on your rifle from someone like Bullberry or did you graft a barrel into a scavenge barrel.

Beautiful crown work by the way.

I just picked up a cheep barrel that did not shoot well for someone else and purchased a 1/14 twist Kriegger barrel and screwed them together. A process called Stubbing. I do this a lot with Rim-fires and H&R's. It allows any blank to be used, and without welding. If you have re-chambered Encore,Contender or H&R barrels you will notice that you do hit hard spots in the chamber that you can feel with the reamer, from the lug being welded on.
To try to shoot with the bolt guys I decided that this was the most accurate way to Barrel it.
Thanks for the compliment on the crown!

Yes, I read about the stubbing on David Whites website,D&T Custom Guns)very interesting. I have an Encore and I find that when I really concentrate on getting it back on the bags in the same place each time it shoots pretty well.

I know that i would'nt be able to maintain that level of concentration at a match with everything going on around you.

Hello,

I have a 6br encore built by Bullberry. I ordered the whole gun from them. The gun has a 1-10 twist, 24'' inch bull barrel, and a 1 pound trigger. I have a 12x42 nightforce on top of it. Their barrels have a different mounting system compared to a regular encore, they are mounted with a hanger bar that is attached to the barrel and then to the stock. This gun shoots in the low .3's to high .2's at 100 yards with 90gr berger boattails, 25grs of H4895, seated about .010 off the lands. When you get the load to hot you will have trouble breaking the gun open.

Preacher is right I love my Encore!,he is a good gunsmith too!) One of my six barrels is a 19.5 inch long 1" dia Bullberry Barrel in 6BR with a 262 neck. It will shoot in the 2's pretty much with any bullet from 68 to 80 grains. It most decidely likes the flat based bullets best. I had to tweek powder, it is no where near max. Bullet seating is jammed just a tad. I have NOT had as good a result with TC Factory barrels but have learned the hanger system is ten times better than the twin screws used on the factory barrels.
