6Br dies

Can the Redding 6 br rem. dies be used to reload for a 6br Norma? I can't believe that Redding would not make a set of dies for the 6br Norma but they are not listed at MidwayUSA.

If you are looking for a bushing FL die, Harrell's and Whidden make them for that calibler. The Harrell dies are seen at a lot of short range benchrest matches and are an exceptional value.

Kelbley put a 6BR barrel on my rifle in 2009. They sold me the Redding 6mmBR Rem die. It works fine. I have reloaded and shot about 5000 rounds with this die. The big difference is neck length. Maybe a few thou in body diameter. The Redding bushing die only sizes about half the length of the neck. Recently bought Whidden FL 6BRX sizing die from Whidden for about $90. I use a Wilson seater. It came with a shoulder bump gauge. Never tried to see if the Whidden 6BRS die sizes the entire neck. The 6BRX neck is half the length of the 6BR neck.

harrell die is the one to get. send them 3 pieces of fired brass fired at lest 3 times.and not resized. they will pick one of their off the shelf dies that most closely matches your chamber. i think they have 8 to choose from. closest to custom without the price.

I went to Redding website and it appears they show the same die for both. Its listed like this, 6Br Rem (Norma) or something like that. To me they are implying they are the same.

Midway does list the Redding 6mmbr Dies (in sets and individually) which are synonymous with what some call the 6mmbr (Norma) cartridge die. They are one and the same and work just fine. Been using them for almost 8 yrs now and work very well for me in resizing and seating bullets for my Savage Model 12. Sound like the usual semantics issue over verbiage to me that we've heard and read about for years. That's not to say that Harrel or Whidden doesn't make exceptional dies also in the same nomenclature.

The issue is not semantics. It is dimensions. I spent some time finding this. I suggest that those that make statements about the dimensions of the Remington and Norma/Lapua versions' dimensions read this, post #2.

It may be that Redding has changed the dimensions of their dies without changing the designation. I have a question for those that are using the Redding dies. What do your sized cases measure just above the extractor groove where die and chamber contact end?

Boyd,
Point taken, but I cannot agree with you completely. I was NOT making any statement whatsoever about specific dimension (or differences) between what historically was a 6mmbr and a 6mmbr Norma casing. And you are NOT addressing the designation of the current market die (name/designation) availability of a 6mmbr Resizing dies (set) as the OP had requested. You are talking specific dimension casing differences in the two (what used to be and what is now available-history) and my point was simply that TODAY you buy a Redding 6mmbr Die that has no mention whatsoever of the NORMA name. In fact, my information came directly from Redding in a telephone call I had with them when I had them make me an FL Resizing Die for my 6mmbr years ago. And that die was made based upon three fired pieces of Lapua 6mmbr brass. So I am in no way trying to spread a falsehood because the info (about current available dies) came directly from the maker of my die and the aforementioned information supports what I posted..

As to your case dimension measurement request, my casing (after resizing) measure .470.

I have two 6BR's chambered by different 'smiths with different reamers. I use Lapua brass exclusively and all my dies are Redding marked "6MMBR REM". I've had no issues with fit or clicking and the cases are really holding up well. I bought all my "stuff" back in 2005. The Harrell die sure looks like the way to go now and I'm probably going to get one.
BTW if you are going no-turn I'd recommend starting with a 266 or 267 bushing.

I read an article a few years ago that stated that Rem had a patent on the 6mmBR Rem case dimensions. The cartridge was becoming popular in Europe for 300M comp. Lapua wanted to make cases but Rem would not give them permission since they owned the patent. So Lapua changed the case dimensions just enough that it could legally be called a new design. Lapua patented the new design and had the right to make cases.
