6BR Criterion Pre-Fit

6BR, New rabbit hole for me, any information would be appreciated.

Well I ordered one from NSS. This is a no turn neck chamber, .093 freebore. I may lengthen the throat if I feel needed, probably in the neighborhood of .104-.120. I'm going to use Lapua brass, will I end up with donuts eventually? This will be on a repeater with bottom metal and drop mag. It will be used for steel shooting and I'm aware of possibly a need for the mag kit to get it to feed properly. Also I like depriming my brass before I tumble it, what tool to purchase for depriming? I already have a 6BR Widden die set for it.

Thanks,
Don Dunlap

You should still be clear of the neck/shoulder junction with a 105gr bullet, so I don't think donuts will be a concern.

For a depriming tool, check out Mighty Armory small pin decapping dies. A cheaper option is the Lee universal decapping die. Take the pin, chuck it in a drill and use a file to turn it down until it fits through the flash hole.

Just what i did in the second paragragh.

Also I was given an old Lee press, I made the 0 into a C by cutting the front out of the press which has worked fantastic! Much easier and faster to deprime cases.

I'll check into the Mighty Armory tool. I have a Lee Universal recapping die, possibly buy another and file the pin diameter down.

Will the brass be donut free or is it possible to get them?

I know I just ordered the barrel two weeks ago. This waiting is going to be tough, 12-14 more weeks. My buddy and I headspaced his barrel over the weekend, he's completely ready to go.

I'm going to also try a p-mag and see if it will feed without hiccups.

I bet Bugholes or Craddock could get you a better barrel faster than that...

I'm good. I've bought barrels from Greg in the past, good guy to deal with. I've got plenty to shoot to keep me busy. I even have several I've never fired a shot in. I guess I should screw my newest Competition Match barrel on that's been sitting. I'm happy with what I ordered.

We were working on 6CM with the shoulder pushed back another 50 thou.

With the 0.93 freebore I'm wondering what the OAL will be possible with a bit of a jump with a 105 bullet. I will not be shooting Berger's in this barrel. Hornaday, Nosler, or Sierra's.

People spend a lot of time ringing their hands about freebore, on a 6BR is really not much of a factor (on a Dasher yes). Even if you hit the donut (which you won't) you won't know it until about the 5th reload. Buy 300 Lapua cases and the barrel will be mostly burned out before you ever worry about it. Then you can use your 300 cases for light bullets and pdogs.

I am sure you are fine.

I did a freebore study on here with an earlier post with a ZERO freebore, and you really are only 40 thou short of being able to run 105s in a ZERO at the lands. 120 is TOO LONG... I have a 127 reamer that Dave Kiff talked me into buying a custom made reamer that took me three months to get, and he was thinking of DASHER!!! It is stupid long. Way too long for 100ish bullets. 93 to 104 should be great.

Well sounds good, but I guess I'll see. I have access to a uni-throater, I used it on my newest Competition Match barrel. I didn't like the.104 freebore for my 115 DTAC's. I jump this combo a bit.

I run 108 Berger’s on a .018 jump without any problems at all. Don’t recall the OAL however my CBTO is 1.792
(using a Hornday comparator)
Sierras are a bit shorter BBTO

1-8 twist
.93 FB
CBI 28 in bull barrel

Yesterday my buddy and I got out and shot his Criterion. It's the same as yours. Multiple powders and multiple bullets. While shooting and being new during break in it wasn't bad. After the break in procedure the 3 shot loads showed promise, some a little better than others. All in all this barrel will definitely be a shooter. It's in a new Masterpiece Arms chassis, the p mags ran almost issue less. The AICS mags with the primal kits the same. The Savage action likes a medium fast bolt manipulation to run well without dropping the case. This action is unmolested. Sexy little case.

Sierras 107 will run extremely well after break in 29.7 at first then crank it up to 30.1
Lapua Senars around 30.gr
108 Berger at 30.gr
All will shoot 5 shots under an inch at 550 yards
One clover leaf hole at 300
About 1.5 at 600

Jim, is this with Varget or something else?

H4895 is showing a lot of promise in my buddy's barrel with multiple bullets. It has a little more speed than Varget, which is crucial for some PRS match shooting. He will be taking a second look at Varget. Myself since I have 30-35 pounds of H4895 that's where I'm going. I may give RL16 a try.
